It seems as though there is hope for Mindhunter Season 3 on Netflix, and we wanted to explore when the season’s release date could be on the streamer. So, Mindhunter Season 3 has been catapulted back into the conversation.
Why, you ask? Because of one of the show’s stars, Jonathan Groff, who appeared on a recent episode of The Jimmy Fallon Show. During that interview, Groff was asked whether Frozen 3 and Mindhunter Season 3 could happen.
Here’s what Groff had to say on that matter:
I feel like, even though those projects seem very different, Frozen and Mindhunter, I feel like a third Frozen and a third season of Mindhunter are equally possible.

Now, Groff isn’t saying that Mindhunter Season 3 is definitely happening. However, he also didn’t say that it was dead, and even though Frozen 3 hasn’t officially been greenlit by Disney, given how well Frozen and Frozen 2 did at the box office, they would be leaving a lot of money on the table if they didn’t start working on the film soon.
So, what I’m saying here is that Groff’s words should give you hope if you are desperately waiting for a third season. We were told a while back that Fincher and Netflix were talking about a third season.
Fincher revealed previously that he wasn’t up to making a third season of the show because making them took so much out of him. He ended up doing literally everything on the show, even though that was not the original plan.
Fincher is a perfectionist, and he didn’t like what they were coming up with for season 2, and he ended up becoming very hands-on with the series. He also revealed that the show was on “indefinite hiatus”, and he wanted to focus more on his Netflix movies.
Since making Season 2, Fincher directed Mank – an Oscar-nominated movie for Netflix – and he’s just wrapped on The Killer which is now in post-production.

All of this means that Fincher could be looking at his next project, and it sounds as though that project could end up being Mindhunter Season 3. Moreover, one of the directors of the show, Asif Kapadia recently told fans around the world that Mindhunter Season 3 could still happen.
He explained that fans just needed to make enough noise about it to get Netflix to listen. Here’s what Kapadia had to say about Mindhunter Season via his Twitter account:
Audiences around the world need let @netflix know that there is a real interest & demand for Season 3 of @MINDHUNTER_ if you make enough noise, It might actually happen….
There is huge demand for this show to return, and the demand isn’t just coming from the fans online. The show’s cast and crew have all been voicing their support for a third season. Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv have all said they would love to make Season 3.

As for who would return for Season 3, I think everyone would want to come back for this show. Groff, McCallany and Torv would all definitely want to return as Holden Ford, Bill Trench and Dr. Wendy Carr respectively.
I’m sure that the rest of the show’s cast would also really want to come back. The most likely contenders for a return, aside from the three leads, would be Cotter Smith as Robert Shepard and Stacey Roca as Nancy Tench.
Fincher revealed that he had plans to make five seasons of the show.

However, in January 2020, Netflix announced that the cast had been released from their contracts and that the series was on indefinite hold, as Fincher was busy with other projects.
A Netflix spokesperson said:
He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.
In October 2020, Fincher confirmed the series was done for now, and a Netflix spokesperson said that a third season may be possible “maybe in five years”. We’re hearing that Fincher is itching to get working on the show again, and Netflix wants him to do it! More on that in a later article.

Desperately waiting for the third one
Definitely want at the very least one more season to complete Mindhunter!
Unless all 5 seasons are made there would be no point in watching mindhunter one and two in the future.
I feel let down. I wouldnt have watched series 1 and 2 of mindhunter if i had known that it was going to end mid story and never be finished.
What is the point of having a unfinished series on netflix.
Its like having a movie only half finished. That wouldnt be acceptable.
Mindhunter was a brilliant series and i am left very disappointed.
