Idris Elba Confirms He’s Making The Luther Movie

British actor Idris Elba has confirmed during an appearance on The All-New Capital Weekender via Capital FM that he’s about to be making the Luther movie, which he refereed to as “Luther: The Movie“. The crime series, also starring Ruth Wilson, last aired in 2019 with its fifth and final season (after a 4-year hiatus) received critical acclaim.

Idris Elba himself won a Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild award for his performance in the titular role as John Luther.

Here’s what Idris Elba had to say about the upcoming Luther movie during his interview on Capital FM:

I’m super excited and hope the fans are sort of excited for that. It’s been a long time coming for a movie, so I’m excited about that.

Luther works as a Detective Chief Inspector in the ‘serious crime’ unit. Unnervingly dedicated to his job, Luther battles against the darkness of his work and maintaining his own personal drama. The series was met with huge approval focusing upon its dark nature and outstanding performances from the cast.

Rotten Tomatoes tomato meter stands at 88%, with an average audience score of 87%. The BBC production first aired in 2010 in the UK and soon became popular in the United States on BBC America. In terms of what we can expect of the film with no plot details or production details known at this time we can hark back to an earlier interview from last year.

“The sky is the limit. Obviously, you can be a little bit bolder in the storylines, maybe international, a little bit sort of up the scale. But John Luther is always going to be John Luther”.

Idris Elba will be next seen in DC Comics and Warner Brothers production, The Suicide Squad from director James Gunn in the role of Bloodsport.
