It seems as though The Mandalorian and Breaking Bad actor, Giancarlo Esposito, is in talks with both Marvel and DC for potential villain roles, which would be great, if a little on the nose, casting. Esposito revealed this himself whilst onstage at a recent panel (via @countingdowncitygeeks on TikTok).

Here’s what Giancarlo Esposito had to say on the matter:

So, I have not worked for Marvel yet. I’ve been in a room with them and talked with them, and to answer your question, I think what they do is on the lines of that mythological journey that Joe Campbell talked about, who happened to be a friend of George Lucas that George Lucas put into his stories. They do the same thing.

The actor then went on to talk about which roles he would like to play in either the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the updated DC Universe.

So, there’s been talk of Magneto, there’s been talk of Dr. Freeze, there has been talk of, who else are they talking about over there? Oh, Doom! And there is Professor X. Pick one? I’m going to go for something that is a little bit different. I’m going to go and put it out in the universe that it is Professor X.

Which Marvel or DC roles would Giancarlo Esposito fit?

I would really like to see Esposito play a new version of Professor X in the MCU, and it would be nice to see him play a character that’s not a villain for once. He’s made a name for himself over the years for playing the villain.

He played the likes of Gustavo Fring in Breaking Bad, and then he was seen as Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian. Most recently, we saw Esposito play a sort of villain in The Boys, Stan Edgar.

He’s brilliant at playing the bad guy, but I do think he’s in danger of being typecast in Hollywood as the go-to guy to play the villain. That said, he’s really very good at it.

Do you think Esposito is in danger of being typecast as the villain?

Dr Freeze would be an interesting choice, and I think that would be an excellent bit of casting. I’ve seen a lot of rumours linking Esposito to the Doctor Doom role.

However, I have an inkling that Marvel might be looking elsewhere for that particular role. I’ve even heard that the role of Doctor Doom has already been cast.

I wouldn’t be surprised if someone like Matt Reeves is looking at casting Esposito in his upcoming Batman sequel, which is rumoured to introduce Dr Freeze into that particular universe. I would genuinely love to see Esposito act opposite Robert Pattinson’s Batman.
