The Oscars aired last night and people were left both upset and angered after Chadwick Boseman didn’t with the Best Actor award.
I get the anger, however, I don’t think the anger should be aimed towards Anthony Hopkins who ended up winning the award for his performance in The Father.
Going into last night’s awards, Chadwick Boseman was the frontrunner and many people were expecting him to win.
He was nominated for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
However, there were rumblings that Hopkins might end up winning after he won the Best Actor award at the BAFTAs.
That said, I was shocked that the Academy didn’t go for Boseman.
Yet, Hopkins’ performance in The Father is also brilliant, so I don’t think the hate should be aimed towards him.
There are a number of people on social media hitting out at Hopkins because he wasn’t in attendance.
However, he wasn’t present at the BAFTAs either and he’s 83 years old.
He’s actually the oldest recipient of the award ever.

Hopkins was also not present at the Oscars when he was nominated for his performance in The Two Popes.
The real issue here isn’t with Hopkins, it’s with the producers of the Oscars.
They obviously believed that Boseman was going to win the award and planned the whole show around that.
That’s why the Best Actor Oscar was awarded last.
They thought they’d end on the high note of Boseman winning the award, and instead, it turned out that the Academy had gone for Hopkins instead.
The fact that he wasn’t even present just added insult to injury.
So, if you’re going to blame anyone, blame the organizers and the producers.
They were banking on Boseman winning and it really ended up biting them in the arse.
It wasn’t quite a La La Land moment, but it was pretty close.
