Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam May Be Premiered In Suicide Squad 2

There’s a new rumour which suggests that we might get our first glimpse at Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam in Suicide Squad 2.

I’m sure that both Marvel and DC Comics were clamouring to try and get Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson turn up in one way or another in one of their movies. Not only is the wrestler turned actor one of Hollywood’s most charismatic screen presences, yet has been called ‘franchise Viagra’ because he seems to boost the earnings of any movie franchise he turns up in. He managed to boost the earnings of The Mummy, G.I Joe and Fast and Furious franchises seemingly by just being in them.

Well, in the end, DC Comics and Warner Bros. managed to lure him towards the DCEU and have cast him as Black Adam, who’s well-known in the comics as being Shazam’s main antagonist. That said, we already know that he won’t be appearing in that movie, which we now know will star Zachary Levi as Shazam. However, there’s a new rumour from The Wrap which suggests that Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will be first seen in Suicide Squad 2. This is what their resident comic book nerd and film reporter, Umberto Gonzalez, had to say:

“The insiders told TheWrap that the current plan for the sequel is for the members of Suicide Squad to be tasked with tracking down a weapon of mass destruction. That weapon? Black Adam himself. The villain is best known in DC Comics as the main nemesis of superhero Shazam.”

This rumour seems to suggest that Johnson’s Black Adam could be introduced in Suicide Squad 2 via a smaller role before getting his own standalone movie, which would make sort of sense. That said, there is still no word on that solo Black Adam movie and as of yet and no director has been attached to the project. Although my pick would be Guillermo Del Toro, yet he’s taking a well-deserved year break from directing. On the other hand, it’s full steam ahead with the sequel to David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad.

There had been rumours that Warner Bros. was talking to Mel Gibson as a possible director, yet the gig seems to have gone to Gavin O’Connor (the director of Warrior and The Accountant) who’s currently writing the script. The movie is set to start filming next year and is thought to be released sometime in 2019, yet nothing official has been announced on that front.

As far as DC and Warner Bros’ other projects are concerned, we had thought that the Gothen City Sirens movie had been canned, but that doesn’t appear to be true. David Ayer is still said to be developing the project which should star Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. She’ll also be starring in a Harley Quinn and Joker spin-off movie alongside Suicide Squad co-star, Jared Leto. There are also talks of a Joker spin-off movie which won’t feature the aforementioned actor/musician, which will be directed by The Hangover’s Todd Philipps and produced by Martin Scorsese. This sounds crazy but is apparently the case.

There is also a Batman standalone movie in the works which is being written and directed by War For The Planet Of The Apes’ Matt Reeves and is supposedly starring Ben Affleck, although his future in the DCEU is still uncertain. Added to this is the Deathstroke standalone movie which will star Joe Manganiello as the anti-hero and might be directed by The Raid’s Gareth Edwards.
