DC and Warner Bros. are working on a Deathstroke solo movie which is set to star Joe Manganiello and they are in talks with The Raid’s Gareth Evans to helm the project.
There’s been a bit of a shakeup going on at DC and Warner Bros. We recently found out that they’re working on a Joker spin-off movie which won’t star Jared Leto, will be produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by Todd Phillips. It’s also been confirmed that this film will not take place in the DCEU. They’ve also announced that War for the Planet of Apes’ Matt Reeves will be direct the Batman standalone movie, yet it’s still unsure as to whether Ben Affleck will star as Batman or not. Well, we’ve now learnt thanks to The Wrap that DC and Warner Bros. are working on another new standalone movie, the Deathstroke film, which is set to star True Blood’s Joe Manganiello and possibly be directed by The Raid’s Gareth Evans.
This news shouldn’t come much as a surprise since we already knew that Manganiello had been cast as DC’s anti-hero, yet we weren’t sure in which movie we’ll get to see him first. He was originally cast to play the main villain in Ben Affleck’s standalone Batman movie, yet that project is in a bit of a shambles and is now being redeveloped from scratch with Matt Reeves at the helm. The news that DC and Warner Bros. have greenlit a Deathstroke solo movie, however, proves that they are confident in the man they have chosen to play the role and that they want the very best director for the job. Naturally, a Deathstroke movie will feature a lot of hand-to-hand combat and there’s nobody better at directing that sort of film than Gareth Evans (not to be confused with Rogue One director, Gareth Edwards). The Raid and The Raid 2 have brought material arts movies back into the public eye and for good reason. They’re bloody good (pardon my French)!
Gareth Evans is currently working on a period thriller called Apostle starring Legion’s Dan Steven, and he has also written the script for the Amercian remake (of course), which will be directed by The Grey’s Joe Carnahan. Evans is also said to be working The Raid 3.
