Disney is reportedly considering not bringing Johnny Depp back to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies as Jack Sparrow due to the ongoing trial.
It seems as though Depp’s ongoing trial with Amber Heard might end up costing him another acting gig.
According to The Daily Star, Disney’s executives are now considering not bringing Johnny Depp back as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
Depp is currently suing The Sun newspaper for libel after they coined him a ‘wife-beater’ in one of their articles.
This whole trial has been taking place in the UK and has brought up a lot of stuff about what went on between him and his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
It’s now being reported that Disney executives have become “dismayed” over the alleged abuse and drug use discussed in the trial.
Johnny Depp might not get to play Jack Sparrow ever again
A Hollywood source reportedly told the publication: “They were working on storylines to bid him a fitting farewell from the franchise.”
However, it has to be said that neither Disney nor Pirates of the Caribbean’s producer Jerry Bruckheimer have commented on the trial.
The studio insider continued: “They both realise that, whether Johnny wins his cases or not, he is likely to be viewed as box-office poison in these sensitive times.
“But Jerry was hoping there might be a way to get him on board for a small scene.”
They added that it would be “ideal” for Depp to make a return to the upcoming sequels.
“I think for Pirates 6, in an ideal world every character who the fans have fallen in love with will be able to come back to kind of wrap everything up.
“Ultimately it comes down to screenplay and story.
“If Jack Sparrow isn’t a key, if not the key element, to wrapping up a multi-billion dollar franchise.
“Is it not akin to not having Captain Kirk in Star Trek?” they finished.
