It’s being reported that a Firefly spinoff starring Brendan Fraser is in the works over at Warner Bros Pictures and DC Films.

This news comes to us from Giant Freakin Robot.

Now, we weren’t actually able to verify this report ourselves, however, it seems like something that Warner Bros Pictures and the folks over at DC Films might be interested in making.

Here’s what GFR had to say about this supposed upcoming Firefly spinoff project:

A trusted and proven inside source for Giant Freakin Robot has learned that a Brendan Fraser spin-off project for Firefly is in development.

They don’t any more information about what this project would be.

They don’t mention whether it would be a movie or a TV show.

Does a Firefly project starring Brendan Fraser make sense?

So, I am now entering the purely speculative zone now, and I think this would be best suited for a straight to HBO Max movie.

What we do know is that Brendan Fraser is going to be playing a version of Firefly in the upcoming Batgirl movie.

This movie is going to be going straight to HBO Max and is being directed by Bad Boys For Life directors, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

They are currently filming in Glasgow in Scotland.

The movie is going to star Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon alongside J. K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser, Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne, and Ivory Aquino as Alysia Yeoh.

Alysia is a bartender and Barbara Gordon’s best friend and Aquino is the first transgender actor ever in a DC Films superhero movie.

It’s going to be interesting to see how this movie could lead into a Firefly solo movie or TV show.

This Batgirl film might set up a lot of things for DC Films

It’s also being rumoured that the Batgirl film is going to set up the Black Canary movie, which is also in the pipeline.

As for the character of Firefly, in the comics he’s a sociopathic pyromaniac who terrorises Gotham by setting buildings on fire.

I expect Fraser to play the Garfield Lynns version of the Firefly character in the upcoming Batgirl movie.

Lynns was already an expert in pyrotechnics and explosives with a thorough knowledge of flammable agents.

However, he is then horribly scarred by a blaze at a chemical factory, and he then manages to mechanically engineer an insulated, fireproof battle suit to protect himself.

This specialised outfit is equipped with an extensive arsenal of fire-creating weapons, including a military-grade flamethrower, various incendiary devices (such as grenades, napalm, and smoke bombs), and a sword-like blade of superheated plasma for close-ranged hand-to-hand combat.

He also used a high-tech, winged jet pack which is mounted on the back of the armour which allows him to fly around Gotham City at very high speeds.

Firefly is traditionally a Batman villain in the comics, however, I think he’d make for a very interesting foe for Batgirl.
