Viewers have revealed that they were forced to turn of Netflix’s new movie, Blonde, after just 20 minutes and what they saw left many of them “disgusted”. The movie stars Ana De Armas as Marilyn Monroe, but some viewers have complained that the film is “unwatchable”. The movie hasn’t been very well received by critics, and now viewers are watching it and are also not very impressed with the movie (via The Independent).

The 18-rated movie is based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. Ana de Armas’ portrayal of the iconic movie star and singer has been pretty well received. However, the critics have been divided by the movie. Some critics were rather shocked by the film’s harrowing depiction of trauma and sexual assault.

I haven’t had the chance to watch the movie yet. However, I’ve read a number of reviews that haven’t been very kind to the new Netflix film. For instance, The Independent gave the movie a one-star review. Here’s just a snippet from Jessie Thompson’s review

Blonde is not a bad film because it is degrading, exploitative and misogynist, even though it is all of those things. It’s bad because it’s boring, pleased with itself and doesn’t have a clue what it’s trying to say.

What have users on Twitter been saying about the movie?

Now, people who’ve tried to watch the movie on Netflix have taken to Twitter to reveal what they thought of the movie. Here’s what some Twitter users have had to say about Ana De Armas’ new film.

One person on Twitter wrote: “While the film is beautifully shot (most of the times) and Ana de Armas gives a luminous performance, it falls apart fast… and that last hour… Jesus Christ, f***ing unwatchable. An absolute head-scratcher of a movie.”

Another person added: “Tried to watch @netflix Blonde. Couldn’t stomach more than about 20 minutes of the nearly three hours length. That 20 minutes was nothing but cruel and heartbreaking. Absolutely unwatchable.”

“I just started to watch Blonde and I’ve turned it off after 20 minutes, enough said,” wrote a third. Another person who tried to watch the movie described it as “a hate letter to the icon that was Marilyn”.

Will anybody end up watching this movie now?

One more person added: “Started Blonde and turned it off in record time. Graphically showing rape on screen is not in any way a meaningful way to portray the horrors of sexual assault. Please, I’m begging you leave this woman alone and quit slapping SA survivors and women in the face.

Finally, one viewer went on to say: “Blonde has to be one of the worst f***ing movies I’ve ever seen, I’m literally disgusted after watching it, Marilyn deserves better.”

There have been countless tweets like these ones on the social media platform. It really does seem as though people have been pretty shocked by what they watched in the new Netflix film. The issue, I think, is that the movie wasn’t very well conceived. I’ve heard that the movie features a very good central performance from Ana De Armas as Marilyn Monroe.
