Shyamalan’s work has been a hit or miss. Either it’s a really good hit like The Sixth Sense (1999), or it’s a bad miss like The Happening (2008). Nevertheless, his work generally has interesting concepts, but it all relies on how good or bad the twist is that generally skews his work to making it a good film or a bad one.
Regardless of their quality, Shyamalan’s films have achieved notable financial success overall. Since 1998, his movies have amassed a total box office revenue of $3.1 billion, despite having a combined budget of $723 million.
Come to think of it, out of 15 films he has made since 1998, Wide Awake (1998) and Lady In The Water (2006) were the only two flops in his career.

Shyamalan’s latest film project, Trap, is the first movie that he’s working on for his multi-year deal with Warner Bros Pictures Group. And he wants the iconic modern Sherlock Holmes actor to take the lead.
According to Giant Freakin Robot, the multi-award-winning actor Benedict Cumberbatch is close to finishing negotiations on the new film. The last time we saw him was in Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Since then, he has filmed other projects like Netflix’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, Legendary Pictures’ The Book of Clarence and BBC’s The End We Start From.
Cumberbatch has so far made successful films. While not all of them were box office hits, many of them are critically acclaimed, which earned him recognition throughout his career.
Currently, the film has only one confirmed actor based on IMDB, Rolando Davila-Beltran. So far, his only released work as an actor is Big City Greens and Stranger Things. But he has also amassed several projects that haven’t been shown to the public yet. He’s doing voice work for Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, the Wonder Woman video game, Zootopia 2. He is also listed as part of Marvel’s Shang-Chi 2.
Marvel Actor To Star In M Night Shyamalan’s Trap
For now, it’s hard to predict what to think of Shyamalan’s Trap. As we’ve said before, his projects could really go either way. The only thing we can really expect is that there’s going to be a twist at the ending, which is pretty much the only thing we always expect in a Shyamalan film.
While M Night Shyamalan is known for writing his own films, he has also made a few adaptations. Namely The Last Airbender from the animated series and Knock at the Cabin, which is based on a novel titled The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay. Even After Earth is not an original, it’s based on Will Smith’s own story.
Original or not, the appearance of Benedict Cumberbatch in an M Night Shyamalan film is sure to attract a lot of attention.
