In a shocking development that has sent shockwaves across the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Tenoch Huerta, a star of the recent blockbuster, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has been accused of sexual assault.
The accusation comes from María Elena Ríos, a Mexican saxophonist and renowned activist (via The Direct). This incident adds to a recent series of similar charges that have plagued the MCU, casting a shadow over the franchise’s future. I’m talking specifically of the case against Jonathan Majors, who had recently been cast as the MCU’s new main villain, Kang, and impressed many people already with his performance as the character in Loki and Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania.

Ríos made the accusation public through a series of tweets in which she distanced herself from Poder Prieto, an organisation focused on combating racism in Mexico, of which Huerta is a member. In a tweet translated from Spanish, Ríos called Huerta a “violent and sexual predator”. According to Ríos, the organisation allegedly pursued her in order to “avoid scandals over their Marvel movie”.
Ríos further continued her allegations in a follow-up tweet. She explained how difficult it was to discuss the “abuse of power of a sexual predator who is loved for playing a character in a movie” and described Huerta as “charming in appearance” and a “narcissist”.
Ríos, however, did not go into detail about her claims but did affirmatively respond to another user on Twitter who inquired if Huerta had assaulted her. She stated that there were “several more” instances.

According to Mexican outlet Reforma, the accusations against Huerta originated after Ríos claimed Poder Prieto published a podcast episode that she was a part of without her consent and without compensation. Ríos’s translated tweet reads, “THEY DO NOT HAVE CONSENT to disseminate a material that they did not want to pay me and that, like this, in several they exploited me to work for them for free”.
In response, the organisation defended itself on Twitter, stating that they couldn’t “pay you [for] something that is not our production” and maintained that they didn’t publish the podcast episode in question, but rather recommended it as content like they do almost every day.
The Silence from Huerta
Huerta, who recently made his MCU debut with Black Panther 2 and is rumoured to be returning for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, has yet to publicly respond to Ríos’s allegations1.
Not the First MCU Star
The allegations against Huerta come soon after another MCU star, Jonathan Majors, was arrested and accused of sexual assault in March. This raises serious questions about the environment within the MCU and the conduct of its stars.
As fans and industry insiders grapple with the gravity of these accusations, it is clear that this issue transcends the world of comic books and superheroes. It has brought the spotlight back onto the pressing need to address sexual assault in the entertainment industry. The allegations also highlight the importance of ensuring safety and respect for everyone involved in the production of these beloved franchises.
We, along with other media outlets, will continue to provide updates on this story as they become available. The coming days and weeks will undoubtedly reveal more about the allegations and the implications they carry for the future of the MCU and its stars.
