Andy Serkis Teases His Return In Andor Season 2

Andy Serkis teases his return to character’s return as Kino Loy in the second season of Star WarsAndor for Disney Plus.

Serkis’ character Kino Loy was heavily featured in three episodes of Andor. He is one of the prisoners of the Empire in Narika 5. His character had the position as the floor manager as he oversaw the work of his fellow prisoners.

In the series, Cassian Andor, with the help of Loy, was able to get the prisoners to escape the facility. Unfortunately, the facility was in the middle of the sea. While many were able to jump and swim with the hopes of surviving, it was revealed that Loy couldn’t swim. In other words, he would have died if he jumped.

We never saw him after that. It was never clear if he jumped or did he stay in the facility. Rest assured, he doesn’t trust the empire any more.

Just a month ago, Serkis did admit to ET Online that his character is alive.

If he jumped, that would be the end of him and he would be out of the picture… But no, he’s alive and [Kino’s] working out his next move.

Although, it was never clear if we would see the character again.

In an interview with Collider, Andy Serkis did say that the character is very much alive. Andor series creator Tony Gilroy has personally said to Serkis that Loy is alive and well. The actor said:

Well, put it this way, Tony Gilroy said to me, ‘He’s still alive!’. That’s what he said to me. So, that seems to me like there’s some sort of …there’s a possibility that he might be alive.

Serkis has admitted that he would like to play the character again if given the opportunity. He continued:

Yeah, absolutely. I mean, if a character becomes popular, sure, sure. I seriously hope that is going to manifest because I really do love the character, and I love playing the character so much. He’s so complex and flawed and human and brave. I really love the arc of the character, and I think there’s definitely– I’m just imagining him sitting at Narkina 5 at the moment, on his own, perfecting his backstroke.

The series is set to return in 2024 with 12 episodes. The series will cover four years between the events of season one of Andor and Rogue One. With that said, we wonder if we will see Kino Loy again. Surprise, surprise, Disney did announce that he is returning.

To what extent would we see his return? Serkis teased us in an interview with Empire Magazine (via The Direct) and said:

Let’s just say that Narkina 5 is a very lonely place without other people.

Kino Loy is one of the surprise favourites that has come out in the show. Star Wars fans loved Serkis’ character and his performance in the series. It was even better received than his previous character, the Force-sensitive humanoid genetic strandcast, Snoke, ruler of the First Order as Supreme Leader during the New Republic Era.

I look forward to seeing him back in Andor Season 2 as Kino Loy. Despite the span of time that will be covered by the second season, I hope they show his character has safely escaped the Empire’s high-level prison facility located at Narkina 5.
