Zack Snyder’s Making His Star Wars Spinoff Film For Netflix
It’s been revealed that Zack Snyder is going to be making Rebel Moon for Netflix which was his original Star Wars spinoff idea.
So, this news was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter and it’s fantastic to see that Snyder and Netflix are working so closely together.
Snyder is fresh off a really successful movie release for Netlfix with Army Of The Dead which is one of the streaming platforms top-performing movies ever.
We revealed a few months ago that Netlfix and Zack Snyder were keen to work together again, and they’ve taken the next step in their working relationship.
Netflix has greenlit Rebel Moon, which was Zack Snyder’s idea for a Star Wars spinoff movie.
It seems as though this film is going to be something of a space western, which is what Star Wars is really.
Snyder did reveal in the past that he would love to do a Star Wars film at some point in his career and revealed that Rebel Moon did start off life as a pitch for a Star Wars spinoff film.
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon will be his take on Star Wars for Netflix
The movie will be a sci-fi epic and is heavily influenced by Akira Kurosawa’s movies, just like George Lucas was for Star Wars.
This is something he pitched about a decade ago, and it never really got off the ground – until now that is.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder envisioned his Rebel Moon film to be a darker, more mature take on Star Wars.
Well, that wouldn’t have flown with Disney.
Here’s what Zack Snyder had to say about Rebel Moon:
This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan. It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.
Eric Newman, who produced Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead in 2004, will produce this film.
