wednesday-season-2-netflix-confirmed

All signs for Wednesday Season 2 are looking good! We’ve recently been informed by sources close to Netflix and the show’s production that the series’s second season is already “being discussed” at the streamer, and it seems as though the new show will get a second season.

Before going into this story, I must warn you that there could be spoilers for Wednesday Season 1 buried somewhere in this article. So, if you haven’t watched the first season yet, I recommend you go and watch it now, and then come back here once you’re done. I don’t want to ruin anything for you since Wednesday is one of our favourite shows of the year so far! You’ll have to check back with Small Screen sometime in December to find out whether it entered our top ten favourite shows of 2022.

OK, so onto what we’ve been told about Wednesday Season 2. According to our source, it seems as though a writer’s room for the second season has already been set up. They added that the show’s creators, producers and Netflix were all talking about what could happen in a second season even before the first season aired on the streaming platform. That’s a very good sign that Netflix means business with this new show, and it sounds as though we’ll be getting quite a few seasons of the new Addams Family series, which I think is great news!

Here’s what our source had to say on the matter:

Discussions about what could happen in the second season have been ongoing since the beginning. Season 2 is now actively being discussed with Netflix, so it should only be a matter of time before we get the green light. We’re very hopeful that we will get to make more seasons and really explore this incredible world.

The show’s creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, have spoken about the possibility of a second season, and it sounds like they have some idea of where they would like the story to go in future seasons. During an interview with Empire Magazine (via Screen Rant), Gough spoke about the possibility of a second season. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

Miles [Millar, the show’s other co-creator] and I are talking amongst ourselves about it. There’s definitely more that you can explore in the world of the Addamses.

Will Tim Burton return to direct?

This series was a big deal for Netflix, and I also think it’s a pretty big deal for TV in general because it marks celebrated filmmaker Tim Burton’s first foray into the world of television. He is an executive producer on the show and also directed four episodes of the first season. His were the first four episodes of Season 1, and I have been asking around to find out whether he might be directing any more episodes of the show.

It has been revealed that he will be making a sequel to Beetlejuice, so he might be pretty busy with that project. However, something tells me he had a good time directing episodes of the new Netflix show. Whatever happens, I was informed that Burton would stay on as an executive producer for Season 2 and beyond, so that’s something.

Jenna Ortega is the perfect Wednesday Addams

The first season of the series introduced us to Jenna Ortega’s take on Wednesday Addams, and this was a role made for her. She was perfect as Wednesday, and has even revealed in subsequent interviews that she learnt how to fence and how to play the cello, and it showed in the first season.

I also loved that they brought Christina Ricci back, and I hope to see more of her in the upcoming seasons. That said, given how the first season ended, I’m unsure if she will be back for the second season. However, her character is definitely part of a bigger, more sinister plan, so there’s certainly room for her to return in Season 2.

Will Gwendoline Christie return for Season 2?

As for the rest of the cast, Gwendoline Christie has teased that she might come back for another season, which seems unlikely given what happened to her character in the first season. But remember, not all is as it seems in the Addams Family’s world. Here’s what Christie had to say when Digital Spy asked the actor whether she’d like to return as Principle Weems in Season 2:

We haven’t seen her put in the ground, have we? I feel like Larissa Weems would not really be prepared to entertain or be dominated by anything as commonplace as death.

This sounds like a mystery I’m going to have to try and solve. Will Christie’s Weems return for Season 2? Watch this space to find out. Snap Snap. As for the rest of the cast, I am sure we’ll see more of Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams and Luiz Guzmán as Gomez Addams. I also think we’ll get to see more of Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester. And then there are Wednesday’s classmates, who will all be back for Season 2. The likes of Percy Hynes White as Xavier Thorpe, Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay, Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus and Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Otinger should all be back for the second season.

And, we couldn’t forget about Thing! Yep. I am 99.999999% certain that Victor Dorobantu will return as Thing in Season 2 and beyond. He is one of the show’s main characters, after all.
