Batman: Arkham Asylum

Unleashed to an anticipative audience of PlayStation 3 gamers back in 2009, Batman: Arkham Asylum completely revamped not only the superhero genre but the way fighting and stealth games were made from thereon in. While it wasn’t the first video game to feature one of the most well-known characters from DC comics, it is one of the most memorable and well-loved ones. Featuring an innovative combat system that relies on combos, an open-world free roam mode and the ability to go head-to-head with some of the Dark Knight’s most formidable foes.

Another great feature of the game is also the ‘Scarecrow’ levels, which involve having to tackle obstacles from a claustrophobic, disorienting perspective. The Arkham games have been so popular with fans that Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Asylum are ranked as some of the best superhero video games by Metacritic. The title still stands out, even over a decade after its initial launch.

Marvel’s Spider-Man

While Superman and Batman are hugely well-known characters of the DC universe, Spider-Man is one of the most well-known in the Marvel universe. This beloved character has graced the big cinema screens, comic books, and video game consoles. The 2018 action-adventure game Marvel’s Spider-Man contains an even more expansive open-world setting than Batman: Arkham Asylum, and allows for complete freedom. However, the game comes into its own once you’ve enjoyed free-roaming and decide to settle into the story, as it boasts a narrative that could rival the best Spider-Man movies.

The 2018 game featured an older Spider-Man and an original story that was separate to any other existing Marvel projects. It also became one of the fastest-selling games of the year and also one of the best-selling PS4 games of all time. Critics have said that this game really raises the bar for one of the world’s most loved superheroes. A few years later its sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, would also prove hugely successful with gamers around the world too.

Wonder Woman: Bullets and Bracelets

One of the most powerful women in comic books is Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman. In recent years, Gal Gadot took on the role of the character on the big screen, starring in two of her own films so far. With her superhuman strength, speed, and fast-healing, along with her lasso of truth and indestructible bracelets, she is a tough superhero that can take on anything.

While Wonder Woman might have enjoyed an all-new cinematic revamp recently, it’s enjoyable to see an online slot game that takes inspiration from the kitsch of the original 1970s television series. Barcrest’s Wonder Woman: Bullets and Bracelets features an engaging base game, exciting bonus features, transforming wilds, mystery symbols and plenty of chances to win huge jackpots.

Wonder Woman fans will feel right at home here, with the game using a range of recognisable images and icons from the series, as well as featuring a classic Wonder Woman soundtrack.

Thor Infinity Reels

Since phase one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe began, one of the long-standing characters who has featured on screen time and time again is Thor. Played by Chris Hemsworth on screen, the Norse god has featured in many Marvel films as well as three of his own. The character has been so popular with MCU fans that another film is set to be released in the future with further Marvel phase 4 releases, like Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The character has been so popular that he’s inspired online slot games too. ReelPlay’s classic online slot Thor Infinity Reels puts players in the shoes of Thor, the god of thunder and lightning. The infinity reels mechanic borrows from Marvel’s Infinity Stones concept, where player’s need to land Thor’s hammer over multiple symbols on potentially infinite reels to bag the infinity bonus. Other Thor-inspired games that have been developed by slot game developers over the years too include Thor’s Lightning and Power of Thor Megaways.
