It’s been revealed that the upcoming Transformers reboot is getting a new director in Creed 2’s director Steven Caple Jr., which is really good news as far as I’m concerned. This news was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Steven Caple Jr. looks all set to be the man who will take over the Transformers franchise, which is about to be rebooted… again. He was the man who directed Creed 2, which was a really good sequel to Ryan Coogler’s first movie.
It’s going to be really interesting to see what happens with the Transformers franchise moving forward. There was a Bumblee movie which was kind of a reboot, but also wasn’t.
I actually really loved the movie, but it looks like this upcoming Transformers movie will be more of a reboot than the Bumblee film.

It was revealed that Paramount and Hasbro had hired Joby Harold (who’s working on Zack Snyder’s upcoming Army of the Dead) and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) to write scripts for two different Transformers projects. Caple will reportedly be directing Harold’s script and they’ve already penned in a release date of June 24th, 2022.
Paramount Pictures obviously doesn’t want the Transformers franchise to end because they’ve made so much money from them over the years. They’ve made more than $4.84 billion globally. Of course, most of those movies were directed by Michael Bay.
The first Bay movie came out back in 2007 and his time with the franchise ended with Transformers: The Last Knight. Travis Knight then came on-board to helm the 1980s-set prequel Bumblebee, which was released in 2018.
Personally, I think Bumblee was the best Transformers movie since the first one, which I did actually enjoy quite a bit. There are two live-action Transformers films in the pipeline, and also an animated Transformers project from Toy Story 4 filmmaker Josh Cooley is in development.
