Tom Hanks Reportedly In Talks To Play A Villain In The MCU

Could Tom Hanks be really in the running to portray a villain in the MCU? Giant Freakin Robot reports of the possibility. Report says that the Two-Time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks is in talks for a villainous role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While not a lot of people remember him portray a bad guy before, it doesn’t mean he hasn’t. In fact, he has already done so more than once.

Being one of the highly acclaimed actors in Hollywood, Hanks would definitely be able to hack any character that the MCU might have for him. That is even if the character is a big bad.

Hanks won his first Best Actor in the Academy Awards in 1994 for his role as Andrew Beckett in the 1993 movie Philadelphia. His second Oscar immediately followed in 1995 for the eponymous Forrest Gump in 1994.

In all Hollywood history, only he and Spencer Tracy (1938 and 1939) hold the record of winning two Oscars consecutively.

More Academy Award nominations followed together with various wins from other prestigious institutions. Hanks has built a strong name for himself in the industry as among the most respected actors today.

If one is to look at his acting credits at the turn of the millennium, Tom Hanks hasn’t actually slowed down in taking on different roles.

He has since become Woody in the Toy Story franchise, Robert Langdon in the movie adaptation of author Dan Brown’s novels The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. And so many more.

Speaking of angels and demons, Hanks would have the acting chops to portray either in the MCU. Good guy or bad guy, we are sure he’ll be able to do justice to any role that will be coming up for Phase 5 or 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Taking Giant Freakin Robot’s report with a grain of salt, the studio could be eyeing the seasoned actor for a major villain role. With Hanks’ calibre of talent, he cannot be in the MCU for a lesser villain.

For titles still to come in the franchise, the ones starting from Thunderbolts to Blade and beyond come into mind. Furthermore, Secret Wars and Kang Dynasty opens a lot of doors for formidable villainous characters.

Then Phase 6 opens with Fantastic Four and possibly the full-on introduction of the mutants in the MCU. We did write recently about Adam Driver who may be in the running for Doctor Doom.

However, Tom Hanks could also be considered for the arch nemesis of Marvel’s First Family. Also, along the lines of family, Hanks could indeed deliver the role of Reed Richards’ father, Nathaniel Richards.

Reed’s father is a time-traveling scientist who is a founding member of the Fantastic Four. Given that the character will be traveling time, could there also be a connection with the upcoming Loki 2?

Although less likely but not entirely impossible is for Hanks to be a villain in the upcoming projects for Disney Plus streaming. Aside from Loki 2, are there any chances that he could be portraying a role in the supersized Daredevil series?

Equally important is the possibility of an altogether new grand storyline for Marvel. We are speculating characters within titles that they have announced.
