The Sandman Season 2 Gets A Promising Update

The-Sandman-Season-2-Netflix-Release-Date

The Sandman Season 2 is something that we all want to see, and interestingly enough, we’ve already been told that the second season is being worked on for Netflix as we speak. However, for some rather odd reason, Netflix still hasn’t officially renewed the second season, and I’m really not sure why. The series has been performing really well on the streaming platform, but the streamer seems to be waiting for precisely the correct moment to unveil the second season officially.

Anyway, one of the show’s VFX artists has revealed that they are already working on the second season. However, the graphic novel’s creator and one of the producers on the show, Neil Gaiman, has been very quick to point out that just because they are working on the second season’s scripts and VFX shots, it doesn’t mean that Netflix has greenlit the second season yet.

Gaiman has been tweeting furiously about the second season of The Sandman and has been making it very clear that they are waiting for Netflix to decide whether they can make sore seasons of the show for the streamer or not. In one tweet, Gaiman wrote: “We aren’t NOT getting a second season yet. Everyone seems to be jumping the gun on each side. Our numbers were great. @Netflix is examining every number and algorithm to decide if they can make more. As soon as they come to a conclusion we will know.”

Gaiman also added in a previous tweet that the second season still hasn’t been renewed by Netflix. Here’s what he had to say on the matter: “We don’t have a season 2. But the scripts have been written and the VFX department has been working on it. Read the interview.” This tweet came after The Sandman’s VFX supervisor Ian Markiewicz offered an update on The Sandman’s second season during an interview with Screen Rant.

What’s Netflix waiting for?

During that interview, Markiewicz said that show’s team is still crafting the second season despite the lack of official renewal news. Here’s what he had to say on the matter in full:

We have a really wonderful framework for what we think season 2 looks like,” he says. “Allan [Heinberg, The Sandman’s showrunner] is still touching up scripts and reworking things, but we have an arc. Up until pretty recently, I think maybe even two weeks or so, Gary [Steele], our production designer, myself, and Allan meet over lunch, and we will do a script over that meeting.

It’s like, ‘Okay, let’s look at 201,’ and we’ll do our breakdowns together, where we do page turns on 201, and we say, ‘Okay, what do we think? Where can we film this?

Can we film this in a real space? If not, what do we need to build, if we need to build it? Are we building this as a physical set, or can it be a building as a virtual set or a combination thereof? Is it physical to a certain extent, and then digital beyond that?’

Just trying to break each one down to be like, ‘What’s the most value for this, what’s the most sensible way that covers the need for what we need it to be?’ That process is happening now, which is great, and it’s really fun and exciting to be able to sort of have season 1 and behind us to know what we feel worked there, things that we wanted to sort of finesse further, and how that impacts our approach for season 2.

Does this mean it’s happening?

Honestly, I genuinely do not know what Netflix is waiting for. The series has been performing really well on the platform, and people are begging for the second season to be made. Gaiman himself revealed during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that the second season would follow the graphic novels quite closely, just as the first season did. I’m pretty sure that if you read the comics, then you’ll be very excited to see the second season because the subsequent volumes of The Sandman are brilliant!

What do you make of this news? Do you think that The Sandman Season 2 is going to be officially greenlit by Netflix or not? We’re pretty confident that Netflix will announce the show’s renewal pretty soon. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
