Film critic Jeff Sneider revealed on an episode of The Hot Mic Podcast that Universal is on the brink of closing a “big deal” with Nintendo to bring The Legend of Zelda to the big screen. He mentioned that due to the success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was a massive hit at the box office worldwide, Nintendo recognises its worth, and thus the Zelda movie is going to cost Universal a substantial amount.

This new venture is not too surprising considering that during the press rounds for the Mario Movie, creator Shigeru Miyamoto hinted that fans could expect to see more Nintendo movies in the future. He referred to Nintendo as a “talent agency” with “plenty of other entertainers”.

Last month, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma was asked if he would like to see Link, the protagonist of the series, star in his own big-screen adventure. Aonuma expressed that he is definitely keen on the idea, especially after the Mario movie raked in over $1 billion at the box office. However, he admitted that his interest alone was not necessarily enough to make it happen.

Despite the uncertainty, the prospect of a Legend of Zelda film has already generated a considerable amount of excitement among the franchise’s extensive fan base.

While The Legend of Zelda movie is still in the realm of rumours, the anticipation is palpable. The possibility of seeing Link, Zelda, Ganon, and the other beloved characters from the franchise on the big screen is a thrilling prospect for fans of the series.

As of now, it is a waiting game for the fans, as no official confirmation about the movie has been given. Until then, the world of Hyrule remains a place of fantastical imagination for its fans, waiting to be brought to life on the silver screen.
