When Will The Crown Season 5 Be Released On Netflix?

The Crown Season 4 The Crown Season 5 Release Date

The Crown season 4 landed recently on Netflix and people are now wondering about the release date of The Crown Season 5. When will it be coming to Netflix? When will we get to see the members of the Royal family in Netflix’s hit series again? These are questions I’m going to try to answer for you guys in this article.

So, The Crown Season 4 was easily one of the most entertaining seasons of the show so far. Well, for me at least. One of the main reasons why I loved it so much was because it got really into the drama of what went on between Princess Diana and Prince Charles. I’m going to be honest here, the Royal family really doesn’t come out of this season very well.

It’s been really interesting to see how the show’s progressed and how public opinion around the Royal family has changed pretty drastically over the course of this show. The first few seasons made the Royal family and, in particular, the Queen, very popular. Yet, as the show’s gone on, the Royal family have become less and less popular.

These last few seasons were always going to be difficult for the Royals because it was going to go over what happened to Princess Diana and how they treated her. Spoilers, they don’t come out of this story very well at all – Prince Charles especially. That said, you do have to remember that this Netflix show is a dramatisation of what happened and should be taken as a ‘historical’ take of what really went on.

The show’s writers, lead by Peter Morgan, have made it very clear that The Crown is first and foremost a piece of entertainment and is not meant to be taken as fact. That said, people have been taking the show to be very serious and we recently saw a lot of criticism thrown at Prince Charles and the Royal family for the way they treated Princess Diana. They also seem very out of touch with normal people in the show.

Anyway, we know that they are already hard at work on The Crown Season 5, and as far as its release date is concerned, it looks like we won’t be seeing it come to Netflix until 2022. Deadline recently reported that filming is not expected to begin until June 2021. Meanwhile, production on the sixth and final season is expected to begin in 2022.

A two-year gap between seasons isn’t unprecedented and it also doesn’t seem as though this gap is due to the coronavirus pandemic – the show took a production hiatus when the cast was last changed for season three. The Crown Season 4 featured Diana Spencer (played by Emma Corrin) and Margaret Thatcher (played by Gillian Anderson) debuts on the show. Now, it seems as though Thatcher will not be in Season 5, but Diana obviously will be.

There’s a whole cast change for The Crown Season 5. Imelda Staunton will be replacing Olivia Coleman as The Queen. Lesley Manville is playing Princess Margaret, who’s replacing Helena Bonham Carter. Elizabeth DeBicki will be replacing Corrin as Princess Diana. Finally, Jonathan Pryce will be taking over from Tobias Menzies as Prince Phillip. That’s a pretty incredible cast for The Crown Season 5.
