Why Hasn’t Lucasfilm Released Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker On Disney Plus Yet?

When will Lucasfilm release Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Disney Plus, and why haven’t they released it yet? I’ve decided to look into it.

Now that we are all stuck inside on lockdown thanks to the Coronavirus, one nice thing to do would be to watch the latest Star Wars movie.

That movie is, of course, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, however, it’s suspiciously absent from Disney’s new streaming platform, Disney Plus.

The movie has been released to buy on-demand. However, we Disney Plus subscribers can’t watch it on their streaming service.

Why is this, I hear you ask? Well, there’s a whole load of reasons, but it all boils down to one thing.

Disney doesn’t want to detract from its online sales of the movie.

This is a pretty good reason, to be honest. However, I do have one issue with this.

These aren’t normal circumstances we are currently finding ourselves in.

We are all inside now thanks to the Coronavirus and many people are being made redundant.

That said, Disney has done some pretty cool things of late.

You can get a seven days free trial for Disney Plus for instance.

They were offering a year’s subscription for only £49.99 at launch, which is a really good price.

Their highest-earners, like Bob Iger for instance, have forgone their salaries during this pandemic so that they can pay all their employees.

That’s a really cool thing to do.

But, there’s still the fact that they could very easily release The Rise of Skywalker on Disney Plus and they wouldn’t have to take a huge hit on the movie.

It’s not like Disney hasn’t made any money on the movie already.

It did pretty well at the box office, yet not as well as the previous movies in the new Star Wars trilogy.

It would be a huge sign of good faith for Disney to release The Rise of Skywalker on Disney Plus.

That said, we’re probably going to see it come on the streaming platform sometime in the summer.

They’ve already made the likes of Frozen 2 available to stream on Disney Plus.

That movie came out not too long ago and it was a pretty big hit at the box office.

Frozen 2 is also the type of movie that many families would have bought for their kids.

Will other new movies be released on Disney Plus?

I do hope that Disney will make a big announcement that The Rise of Skywalker is coming to Disney Plus.

I would love it to land in May, which would be a great thing to do for all of us who are stuck inside.

There have also been rumours that Disney has been thinking of releasing some of their upcoming movies straight to the streaming platform.

Some people have speculated that they might release Mulan, Black Widow and The New Mutants on Disney Plus rather than in the cinemas.

I don’t think that’s going to happen, mainly because Mulan and Black Widow are big releases which deserve to be seen on the big screen.

I think they’re just going to delay their releases. However, Disney might just dump The New Mutants on Disney Plus.

I don’t think the movie was tracking to do specifically well at the box office and it might entice more people to join the streaming platform.
