Fans of the popular Bollywood action movie, RRR, have been shocked and upset by the fact that the movie wasn’t nominated for an Oscar this year! Many of these fans ended up taking to Twitter to complain about the fact that their favourite movie of the year hadn’t been nominated for Best Picture.
It has to be said that RRR is easily one of the best movies to have been released in 2022. However, the movie wasn’t actually put up for consideration by India, which is a bit of a shock in itself.
The movie ended up becoming something of a global sensation, with people all over the world discovering the movie and singing its praises. The film was then released on Netflix in certain territories, which allowed it to find an even bigger audience.
The audience for the movie was already huge in India, and it’s now one of the most popular Bollywood movies ever outside of India. However, it’s not all bad news for the movie as far as this year’s Oscars are concerned.

SS Rajamouli’s work did get a nod for Best Original Song, and it’s up against some strong contenders in that particular category. However, at least it means that the movie will have some sort of presence on the night.
As far as the best Best Picture nominees are concerned, the Academy ended up going for All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness, and Women Talking.
However, even though the movie didn’t end up getting a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars, the film’s popularity has been huge. The movie’s been so popular, in fact, that a sequel has been announced.

During a recent Q+A session with Rajamouli he revealed that they’re already writing the story for the next movie. V. Vojayendra Prasad is helping pen the feature with his son. Rajamouli made the following statement during this Q+A session:
My father is the story writer for all my films. We’ve discussed a big about [the RRR sequel] and he’s working on the story.

So, as you can tell, there are a lot of people out there who feel very passionately about this movie. Not only that, these people were really under the impression that The Academy was going to show the movie some love at this year’s ceremony by nominating it for some of their biggest awards.
Well, I wasn’t so convinced. I loved the movie, and I would have loved to have seen it get a nomination, but it’s very hard for movies not in the English language to get any real consideration at the Oscars.
Some have made it in the past, and some, such as Parasite, even won the biggest award the Academy has to offer: Best Picture. However, something told me that RRR wasn’t the kind of movie that would get a lot of attention from many of the members of The Academy.
