New Batman Beyond Animated Movie In The Works

It’s being reported that a new Batman Beyond animated movie is in the works over at Warner Bros. Animation, which is an interesting new development. This comes after there were reports that Warner Bros. Pictures has been developing a live-action version of the iconic animated series with Michael Keaton returning to play Bruce Wayne in the movie.

However, that movie ended up being cancelled by Warners after James Gunn and Peter Safran took control of the newly-formed DC Studios. It seems as though there is still an animated Batman Beyond movie in development over at Warner Bros. Animation, which I think would be a good thing to do for the many fans of the original series.

So, according to Jeff Sneider, who was speaking on The Hot Mic Podcast, a Batman Beyond animated movie is still in the works over at Warner Bros. He revealed that the movie was commissioned under the leadership of Walter Hamada. Hamada served as DC Films President from January 2018 to October 2022.

It seems as though this project is still in development, even though DC Studios is now under new management. DC Studios is now under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran. They haven’t revealed whether this project is still happening or not.

That said, it seems as though the project is still being developed, which I’m hoping is good news. That said, Sneider did clarify that development could still be paused or cancelled if it doesn’t fit into the new regime’s cohesive plans for the DCU franchise.

Moreover, it was also revealed that Fast & Furious 9 writer Daniel Casey had written multiple drafts of the Batman Beyond movie, which was intended as DC’s answer to Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse movie franchise. The first Into The Spider-Verse movie ended up being a pretty big hit and a critical darling.

Do you think they’ll ever make a live-action version?

It was reported by The GWW back in January 2019 that the project was in development. However, things have gone cold on it since then. So, Sneider’s report is the first time we’ve heard about this animated project since then and could be seen as some sort of confirmation that it’s still happening.

Snieder also offered us the first confirmation of Casey’s involvement, which is very interesting. I can’t say that I’m a huge fan of his previous work, but I would still be intrigued in seeing what he might have planned for us as far as this Batman Beyond animated movie’s concerned.

At the time, this animated project was reportedly going to be separate from the live-action Batman Beyond movie that was written by Christina Hodson. This movie was going to star Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne, and it’s heartbreaking that it was cancelled.

Hodson has written the likes of Birds Of Prey and the upcoming Flash movie. She also wrote the script for the now-cancelled Batgirl film. I have reached out to Warner Bros. Pictures’ press team for confirmation on this report. They have yet to reply.
