Neill Blomkamp Reveals If He Would Return To Alien 5

Stranger Things Season 2 Is Basically Aliens And Season 1 Was Alien

Neill Blomkamp has expressed his doubts about if he would ever return to make Alien 5.

In an interview with The Independent to promote his new film Demonic, the director talked about his cancelled Alien project.

He was set to direct the fifth installment in the franchise, before the project was eventually shelved.

The film was set to be titled Alien: Awakening and would have had Sigourney Weaver return as Ellen Ripley.

Instead, the studio prioritised the production of Alien: Covenant.

When asked about the status of his Alien film, Blomkamp seemed certain it was dead:

I don’t know, to be honest. I’m not sure that I would do that project. My assumption is that it’s completely dead.

When asked about why his project was cancelled, the director said:

It was a case of both projects were moving forward at Fox simultaneously, and one of them was picked.

Blomkamp heaps praise on Sigourney Weaver

Speaking about Sigourney Weaver, Blomkamp had nothing but praise for her:

Sigourney was unbelievably supportive and amazing. I have nothing but the best things to say about Sigourney. I’m such a fan of hers on every level. She was always into the project, but Fox just clearly doesn’t want it.

Commenting on whether he will eventually get round to making the film, he concluded:

I wonder if it’s possible to do an entire loop, where you’re really into it up until the point it gets shut down, then you lose interest and years go by and you loop all the way back around to being really into it again. Maybe that’s hypothetically possible.

With his most recent film, Demonic failing to impress critics, Blomkamp is in desperate need of something to show he was not a one-hit wonder.

Could the Alien film that helps Blomkamp rediscover his spark that helped him to make District 9?

We probably won’t be finding out any time soon.
