Neil Gaiman Says Good Omens 2 Coming Soon

Fans need to wait just a little bit more because Neil Gaiman has said that Good Omens 2 is coming really soon to Amazon Prime Video. The British comedy fantasy that tickled the minds of viewers on the concept of good and evil will soon have its sequel still based on Gaiman’s and Terry Pratchett’s 90s eponymous novel.

The story revolves around the uncharacteristic friendship that grew between the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley. Both of whom were assigned to either prevent or cause the End of Days.

One misunderstanding leads to another mistaken assumption. Then, things get pretty chaotic until the two had to find a way to prevent the destruction of the world they have grown to love.

Starring Michael Sheen as the angel and David Tennant as the demon, the two lead a cast that also includes Adria Arjona, Miranda Richardson, Michael McKean, Jack Whitehall, Nick Offerman, Brian Cox, Mireille Enos, Jon Hamm. Frances McDormand lends her voice as God, who is the series’ narrator.

Neil Gaiman shared information about the upcoming sequel series. He said:

Good Omens Season 2 will be out this summer. It’s all done and dusted.

The contemporary setting of the series allows for the situational comedy where the angel and the demon as beings not bound on earth marvel at the development of humans throughout the ages. Instead of carrying on with the opposition, Crowley and Aziraphale became friends. That is from the moment Adam and Eve got banished from Eden.

Meanwhile, heaven and hell has already prepared for the Armageddon. They work together to thwart every effort to get the end of existence from happening.

Generally receiving positive reception from viewers, the series had somewhat expected backlash from conservative religious sects. Even though Rotten Tomatoes display an 84% approval rating for the series, a petition for cancellation still happened.

However, the petition was incorrectly demanding that Netflix cancel Good Omens. People who signed it did not completely know that the series was never with Netflix but with Amazon. Netflix did reply to the petition saying:

ok we promise not to make any more

The series is due to release Good Omens 2 this summer. Neil Gaiman shared the information himself. Fans have long speculated what would the sequel be about considering even the literary source has yet to release its follow up story.

The first season ends with people trying to get back to their usual lives. But based on an interview with Gaiman some time after co-writer Pratchett passed away, the two did discuss a sequel where more angels are involved in the story.

The two reportedly thought of having the sequel entitled 668-The Neighbour of the Beast. As there would be more angels on the sequel, Gaiman disclosed that one of them would even be Gabriel. At the time, Good Omens was originally an original mini series without any plans for a follow up story.

It is quite a good sign indeed that the sequel series is happening very soon. I do wonder if there would be another petition that will happen. And whether that petition would be directed to the correct streaming service this time around.
