David Hayter Hints At His Return To The Metal Gear Solid Video Game Franchise

David Hayter Metal Gear Solid

Metal Gear Solid has been one of the most successful franchises in gaming history and part of the success story is down to American actor David Hayter. Throughout his involvement with the Metal Gear franchise, Hayter – the voice of Snake – always championed the cause (at one point he accepted a pay cut to have the original cast back for the 2004 MGS remake, The Twin Snakes). But rumours have been spreading like wildfire that Hayter could make a dramatic return and reprise the role of Snake. Could this be true? And what will gaming fans make of his possible return?

Bluepoint Games – who inspired the remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls – are attempting to bring Metal Gear Solid back to life. According to Invader, the rumour surrounding Hayter coming back to the franchise was allegedly leaked by someone in the gaming community who published details about the launch of God of War: Ragnarok and those claims proved to be true.

Indeed, it was the same leaker that alleged that PlayStation 5 architect and producer Mark Cerny, who paved the way for many of the console’s gaming successes, could revive Metal Gear Solid. But as of yet, there has been no official word or confirmation from Sony, Bluepoint or even the Metal Gear publisher to verify the many rumours that now circulate the internet.

Hayter, as previously explained, was integral to the success of Metal Gear Solid and he even seemed to pave the way for a possible return when pressed about the matter on Twitter.

A Twitter user with the handle @rocketman_LM tweeted to Hayter, in which he asked: “Is there any truth to the rumours of #MetalGearSolid remaster? If so, please tell me you are voicing solid snake again.”

Hayter replied rather honestly and said the following:

I honestly don’t know if the rumours are true. But if they are, let the studio know you’d like me back as Snake. I’m always down to return to Shadow Moses.

Although Kiefer Sutherland was cast as the iconic snake for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Hayter knows the set-up and would slot back in seamlessly.

How would fans react?

Hayter and Snake go hand in hand and he has done a lot to bring the character to life in the Metal Gear Solid franchise. As we have seen, Hayter has a big fanbase and judging by recent tweets, fans would welcome him back to the game in a heartbeat.

Some fans flooded to Hayter’s Twitter account and got involved by tweeting Hayter is ‘Solid Snake’ and nobody else could do the role justice.

Although fans stopped short of criticising Sutherland, it seems they don’t hold him in the same regard as Hayter. Perhaps Hayter is the ‘Snake’ and only he can reprise that role. Whether Metal Gear Solid does return is one thing and if it does, then maybe Hayter could come back. It is a case of watch this space!
