It seems as though Lucasfilm’s current President, Kathleen Kennedy, might be leaving the company after the cinematic release of the upcoming Indiana Jones 5. This report comes to us via John Campea of The John Campea Show, and he’s got an excellent track record with these sorts of scoops. Mikey Sutton is now backing up his scoop over at Geekosity.

For what seems like an eternity, there have been rumours suggesting that Kennedy was about to leave Lucasfilm as the company’s president. However, she’s been able to keep her job up until now. So, I know that many of you might be sceptical to hear another report which is suggesting that her days at Lucasfilm are numbered. However, this time, it seems as though the rumours might be true.

According to John Campea, Kennedy will remain as Lucasfilm’s President until after Indiana Jones 5 is released, which makes a lot of sense to me. In many ways, Kennedy’s career began with Indiana Jones. She started off in Hollywood working as an assistant to John Milius, who at the time was executive producer of Spielberg’s 1941 (1979).

Spielberg then asked Kennedy to be his secretary thanks to her organisational abilities, and Kennedy gradually took on larger roles in the moviemaking process. Kennedy was credited as an associate to Spielberg on Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), then associate producer on Spielberg’s production of Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist (1982).

Kennedy then received a producer credit with Spielberg on E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and continued serving the role on most of his films for the next three decades. In 1982, she helped co-found and run the production company Amblin Entertainment with Spielberg and her future husband, Frank Marshall.

In 2012, it was revealed that George Lucas was going to be selling Lucasfilm to Disney and Kathleen Kennedy was going to be the company’s new President, and she’s been in charge of the company ever since. However, it seems as though 2023 will be her last year being in charge of the company, that is, if Campea and Sutton are to be believed, and I think they are.

Here’s what Campea had to say about Kennedy leaving as Lucasfilm’s President after the release of Indiana Jones 5:

I have heard that the decision to remove Kathy Kennedy has already been made and that she will be gone either sometime before or very, very, very shortly thereafter the release of Indiana Jones 5…she’s out.

That said, Campea did go on to state that we should not “consider this a scoop”, and Campea’s co-host Robert Meyer Burnett then went on to add the following:

I think she’s going to go out with a win and leave gracefully.

As for the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie, there have been rumours that the film’s first screenings haven’t been going all that well. However, the movie’s director, James Mangold, has since debunked those rumours, and it looks like the film will be pretty darn impressive. At least, I hope it will be because I need this Indy movie to be good after the catastrophe that was Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.

Indiana Jones 5 is currently slated for release in the United Kingdom and in the United States on June 30th 2023.
