John Boyega is rumoured to return as Finn and join Daisy Ridley in the Star Wars movie.
During the Star Wars Celebration which happened a few weeks ago in Europe had announced that there are 3 new films already in early development. One of these would see the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker.
The new film is said to be set 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Because of this, we do wonder if she’ll be joined by other familiar characters from the sequel trilogy.
It seems that there is one that could be joining Rey.

While we are used to hearing Jeff Sneider telling us the insider scoops at The Hot Mic, it’s interesting to see that it was John Rocha who said the Star Wars scoop this time around. Rocha said that multiple of his trusted sources say that Boyega will be returning as Finn in the new Star Wars movie.
It is even more interesting to see that Lucasfilm intends to return to Rey and Finn. Considering that even though the sequel trilogy was a financial success, it was not really well received by fans. After the release of The Rise of Skywalker, any planned film in the franchise was put on hold or cancelled.
Quite intriguing to know that Boyega could possibly return. Back in 2020, he had some negative comments about Disney regarding non-white characters being put aside. But Rocha has added that Kathleen Kennedy and Boyega had already talked and ‘buried the hatchet.’ So far, they are all on good terms and have already negotiated his return to the franchise.
The new Star Wars film has no title yet. But it would be interesting to see what the characters are doing. In the movies, we last saw Finn and Rey defeating what remains of the First Order and Darth Sidious at the Battle of Exegol. The books, comics and other media haven’t really expanded on their lives after that.
It would be fascinating to learn where they both ended up. It is said that the film will deal with the Jedi, who are in disarray. With that, Rey plans to rebuild ‘a new Jedi Order.’ Other than that, there is no official announcement about the plot of the film.
John Boyega Comes Back As Finn
We wonder if there would be any connection to the series of books titled Star Wars: The New Jedi Order which was released from 1999 to 2003. While we know that those books are now part of Legends, which is considered non-canon, it does seem that Lucasfilm has been a bit inspired by them rather than ignoring them.
Even the new Star Wars series, Ahsoka already hinted that they could be loosely adapting Heir To The Empire also known as the Thrawn Trilogy, which was originally released back in 1991 up to 1993. So, it’s not far off that the new film starring Ridley and Boyega would be inspired by The New Jedi Order.
The new film would be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who is known to have directed two episodes of Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel. She is known for documentary films in which she has won several awards for Saving Face (2012) and A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness (2015).
Steven Knight is set to write. He is known for Peaky Blinders and Great Expectations. He has a new series coming up titled All the Light We Cannot See, which he co-developed with Free Guy and Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy.
