Could Jodie Comer get to play Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four movie…? This is the question on many people’s lips after it was rumoured that she was going to be announced as being part of the movie’s cast at this year’s D23 Expo. Well, the Marvel panel at D23 came and went, and there was no Fantastic Four casting news to report. However, does this mean that Jodie Comer won’t be playing Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four movie…? Not necessarily. Let me explain where this rumour came from and why I think it might actually be bang on the money.
The rumour was started by a tweet. The tweet was from Emmet Kennedy. Emmet isn’t known for his Marvel scoops at all. He’s actually a sports journalist and podcaster based in Ireland. Honestly, I’m not sure how he would know about upcoming Marvel casting news, but then again, he is a pretty well-known journalist in Ireland, and I’m not sure why he would tweet this unless he was pretty confident about the information he was given.
Will Jodie Comer get to play Sue Storm in the MCU’s Fantastic Four film?
Anyway, here’s what Emmit had to say about the casting announcements that will be made at Marvel’s upcoming panel at D23:
I’m reliably informed that Marvel Studios have signed epic talent for Phase 5
To be announced (with some on stage) by Feige at #D23Expo2022
So, D23 came and went, and none of this happened. So Emmit’s been taking some slack right now on Twitter after this scoop proved to be wrong. However, there’s a part of me that thinks that some of this might have been right, namely the Killing Eve and Free Guy actress playing Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four movie.
I have a feeling that she will be turning up as the Invisible Woman in the movie. I’ve heard other movie pundits such as John Campea suggest that this casting has been locked in by Marvel Studios.
Could she be joined by John Krasinski?
Then, there are the rumours that John Krasinski has signed to star in the upcoming movie. Well, that still hasn’t been officially confirmed, and something tells me that this might not actually happen. I have a feeling that Marvel might be looking to cast someone else, maybe a bit younger in the role of Reed Richards. That doesn’t mean that Krasinski won’t be in the movie. There could be some sort of Multiversal aspect to the movie.
Ultimately, we still don’t know what’s going to happen with this Fantastic Four movie. The only thing we know is that Matt Shakman will be directing the movie for Marvel Studios. He previously worked on the WandaVision series. He directed all episodes of the series for Marvel and did a great job. Before him, the movie was going to be directed by Jon Watts, but he ended up leaving the project due to “creative differences”.
