DC Studios head James Gunn reveals the truth about the rumours about Logan Lerman being casted as the new Superman. Gunn has since announced that he’s developing a new Superman film called Superman: Legacy.

He also said that Henry Cavill wouldn’t be part of the new DC Universe, and many fans had a hard time accepting it. Some even cried out to get him back since we haven’t really seen what he could have been.

Some are just saddened that it felt like the actor was being messed around with following the whole back and forth; being fired, rehired and then eventually being fired again. It must have been really tough for Cavill, and it was tough for the fans!

But some have moved on and accepted that Cavill is not part of the new DC Universe. Those people who have moved on, are now wondering who the new Superman will be.

The DC head has given some details already with the age of the actors they are looking for, as the new film would feature a younger Superman. He has also been clear that this is not Superboy, nor would it be an origin story. Gunn has not talked about any potential actors yet.

On March 30, Beyond the Trailer creator Grace Randolph posted on Twitter that DC Studios is close to finding their new Superman for the new DC Universe.

Randolph posted:

I hear they are VERY close to a #Superman casting – might not be announced for awhile but it could leak

Very very close…

Role MIGHT even be cast or in final talks

Of course, fans tagged DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn if there was any truth to Randolph’s post. Gunn is known to be active on social media and answers questions when he can. Also, he should know about it because he is set to direct Superman: Legacy.

Gunn answered the fan’s question:

Not true. Haven’t had a single talk with a single actor about the role. Just making private lists, prepping material for auditions.

Not long after that Randolph responded to Gunn’s answer, saying:

Interesting, since it’s “not true” I guess I can say I heard his top choice is #LoganLerman

We’ll see what happens!

She added a screen capture of Gunn’s reply and added an animated GIF of pre-Captain America Steve Rogers saying, “I can do this all day.”

What stood out here is that she hashtagged actor Logan Lerman. He’s known for films like Percy Jackson movies as he starred as the main lead. He also appeared in Fury (2014), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), and more recently Bullet Train (2022). The actor is also the star of the Amazon Prime series Hunters, which concluded this January.

Gunn answered back with:

For the record, I don’t know who that is.

Of course, Gunn got a lot of responses about not knowing who Lerman was. I find that a bit hard to believe personally.

He followed up on his tweet with:

Guys, this isn’t a dig at the actor. I don’t know lots of actors’ names. Now that you tell me who he is, I recognize him from stuff and think he’s talented. But I’ve never met him, and he’s never been part of a conversation about playing Superman.

Gunn has so far been clear with his intentions with the new DC Universe. And I do think he already knows that fans are not easy to please. There are high expectations regarding who this new Superman would be.

Fans on Twitter have shared their ideas about Logan Lerman being the new Superman. Many have said that Lerman, while he is a good actor in his own right, might not be fit for the role. Some have suggested a lot of potential actors who could take the role of Superman.

David Corenswet (Pearl), and Wolfgang Novogratz (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser) are highly suggested. They do look the part, but I’m not sure if they would fit the age range Gunn is looking for. Then again, he was never really specific about it, either.

Whoever the new Superman would be, does have big shoes to fill. Henry Cavill might not be the best-represented Superman, but he had the potential to be, which never came to be. There are a lot of fans of Cavill, and the new actor who would fill the role will have to face a lot of DC fan scrutiny.

James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy is going to be the first film that will kick off the new DC. It is set to release on July 11, 2025. Gunn still has a lot of time to get the casting right.
