James Bond Can Be Non-White But Can’t Be A Woman Says Producers

No Time To Die is going to be Daniel Craig’s last time playing James Bond and it means the franchise’s producers have to start thinking about who will play the British Secret Agent next.

This isn’t an easy choice because there are so many good actors out there who can play the role, and now people are demanding Bond be non-white and even possibly a woman.

When I wrote an article about how it’s the right time for 007 to be a woman I got a lot of flack online from many people who’d obviously read the title and nothing else.

What I was saying was that James Bond and 007 don’t have to be one and the same, and that’s what they’ve done in No Time To Die.

We’ve got James Bond, but we also have a new female 007 played by Lashana Lynch, and I think that’s a very clever way to do it.

As for who’s going to playing Bond next, EON producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson revealed to Variety that the actor could very well be non-white but that the character has to be played by a man, not a woman.

Could the next James Bond be a woman? Apparently not

I do understand where they’re coming from. Bond has always been a man, and the fact that they’re looking at non-white actors is a step forward.

Here’s what they said in full about who could play Bond next:

He can be of any colour, but he is male. I believe we should be creating new characters for women — strong female characters. I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that.

I’m going to be brutally honest here, I think they’re right. James Bond has to be a man, yet 007 doesn’t, and what I think they should do is develop another series of films with female spies.

People just aren’t ready to accept a female Bond, but I’m pretty sure they could make a very appealing female spy movie with maybe someone like Lashana Lynch as the lead.

What do you guys think about this? Do you think James Bond could be played by a woman?
