We all know what makes Las Vegas famous and therefore it would be wrong to begin this article without discussing the film Casino.

Released in 1995, Casino is a film about the link between gambling and the mafia in Las Vegas.

Directed by Martin Scorsese and based on the nonfiction book Casino: Love and Honour in Las Vegas by Nicholas Pileggi, the film stars Robert De Niro and uses the derelict Landmark Hotel and the Riviera Casino throughout.

Casino is an epic movie with a running time of 178 minutes and is sure to get you in the mood for gambling.

Younger readers are sure to know the 2001 film Ocean’s Eleven, directed by Steven Soderbergh.

This heist movie starring the likes of George Clooney, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Brad Pitt, and Julia Roberts is actually based on the original Ocean’s 11 film released in 1960.

In the original movie, Las Vegas was only just beginning to develop as a gambling city and the film helped to build its reputation.

The 2001 release features The Bellagio, with the luxury resort and casino being the target of the heist.

It is a great movie, with plenty of twists and turns.

There are a few movies that have been released over the years to include ‘Las Vegas’ in the title.

A great example is the 1998 film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Starring Johnny Depp and shot across 56 days, the cast and crew spent plenty of time in Sin City, filming in the casinos between the hours of 2 and 6am. E

Another of the best movies set in Las Vegas to feature the name of the city in the title is Leaving Las Vegas.

Featuring a suicidal alcoholic played by Nicolas Cage, director Mike Figgis explores the gritty side of Las Vegas and many of the street scenes are extremely authentic.

The film may not show Las Vegas as the fun-filled city we all know and love but Leaving Las Vegas is without doubt one of the top movies set in the city and well worth a watch.
