Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Hasn’t Been Cancelled By Lucasfilm

There has been a lot of talk about Disney Plus’ Kenobi series having been cancelled by Lucasfilm, and it’s since been revealed that those rumours weren’t true.

That said, people supposedly in the know have been claiming otherwise, and there have been some rather interesting articles written about what’s going on with the show.

It sounded like things aren’t quite as rosy with the Kenobi series as Disney and Lucasfilm want us to believe.

For instance, it was reported by Cosmic Book News that there are some series issues with the Kenobi series, which is supposedly going to have Deborah Chow as its showrunner.

Chow directed some of the episodes of The Mandalorian and seems to have a good working relationship with Lucasfilm, yet that might all change in the upcoming months.

Anyway, let’s get back to what happened and why people were claiming that the Kenobi series had been cancelled by Lucasfilm.

It was revealed by a Twitter account called @DicsussingFilm that the Kenobi series had been cancelled yet it was later revealed that this Twitter account was masquerading as a real outlet called Discussing Film.

Notice how the ‘s’ and the ‘c’ were swapped around in the Twitter handle. It’s something that’s not very easy to stop, but Disney and Lucasfilm made no official statement about the rumours because there was no truth to them and they didn’t want to add fuel to the story.

Disney Plus’ Kenobi series is still going ahead

I do have to give credit to the account which posted the fake story, as they clearly state in their bio that the account is a parody account.

Their bio reads: “PARODY ACCOUNT, NOT AFFILIATED WITH @DiscussingFilm.”

So yeah, what happened was people saw this and certain journalists didn’t take the time to check where it was coming.

Notice how I didn’t run the story (I don’t want to blow my own trumpet here, but… I check where my stories come from first before posting them).

Sites such as We Got This Covered and That Hashtag Show then wrote up the ‘story’ that the Kenobi series had been cancelled and Twitter kind of went bonkers.

Basically, the moral of the story is don’t believe everything you read and always, always check your sources first.
