Clayface To Be A Villain In The Batman Part 2

Clayface-To-Be-A-Villain-In-The-Batman-Part-2

It’s being reported that Matt Reeves is toying with the idea of having the iconic DC Comics villain, Clayface, be one of the villains in his upcoming The Batman Part 2. This is huge news because Clayface is one of the most interesting and, I believe, tragic Batman villains of all time.

There have been multiple rumours on which villains Matt Reeves is going to put in his upcoming Batman movie. The truth is that is seems as though he’s not totally sure yet. However, the word on the street is that Clayface is going to be in the movie.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll end up being the movie’s main villain, or whether he’ll be one of the movie’s side characters. Personally, I think it would be really interesting to have him be one of the film’s main villains. I’m sure that Reeves is toying with the idea of bringing some real body horror into the movie, and Clayface is perfect for that.

According to Deadline’s recent report, it’s looking like Matt Reeves wants to have Clayface be one of the villains in his upcoming DC ‘Elseworlds’ movie. Batman’s rogues’ gallery is easily one of the best in the comic book genre. He’s got the likes of the Joker, Bane, The Riddler, Two-Face, Mr Freeze, Poison Ivy, The Penguin, Ra’s Al Ghul, Scarecrow, Hugo Strange… The list is literally endless.

However, one villain that I don’t think has had enough love, either in the movies or the comic books, is Clayface. The character was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. The original version of the character was called Basil Karlo, and he appeared in Detective Comics#40 (June 1940) as a B-list actor who began a life of crime using the identity of a villain that he had portrayed in a horror film.

The character only appeared twice in the Golden Age, but was the inspiration for the shape-shifting Silver Age version. It was in the late 1950s that Batman began facing a series of science fiction-inspired foes, including Matt Hagen, a treasure hunter given vast shapeshifting powers and resiliency by exposure to a pool of radioactive protoplasm, who became the second Clayface. He retained the title for the next several decades of comic book history.

The Batman Part 2 could end up being a horror film

I have a feeling that they might end up blending (see what I did there) the Basil Karlo and Matt Hagen versions of the character. I would love it if The Batman Part 2’s version of Clayface was a struggling actor who agrees to undergo a science experiment which would enable him to shapeshift into any person or character he wished.

However, it would end up going horribly wrong, and that’s when Batman has to come onto the scene. It could be a lot like David Croneberg’s The Fly, and I would love that! I think it would actually fit this new Batman world quite nicely. The first movie was a thriller/noir detective movie. I think the second film should be a body horror film.

I actually think that the first The Batman movie was greatly inspired by the horror movie genre, and Matt Reeves comes from that background, having directed the very first Cloverfield movie. Maybe he wants to try and bring in some more horror into his Batman universe.

The Batman Part 2 is slated to be released in cinemas on October 3rd, 2025. I cannot wait to see this movie.
