It’s been revealed that Armie Hammer has opted to step away from the role in the upcoming film Shotgun Wedding after a very odd scandal and allegations made against him. It’s since been revealed that the role will be recast.
Armie Hammer was going to star in the movie alongside Jennifer Lopez and it’s going to be directed by Jason Moore and was written by Mark Hammer and Elizabeth Meriwether. However, it’s been revealed that Hammer’s role is going to be recast following his decision to exit the project.
The reason he’s leaving? Well, it all happened after there have been some shocking allegations made against Armie Hammer on social media. Hammer’s been trending on social media since last weekend after direct Instagram messages that appeared to be written by Hammer were posted. These posts have not yet been verified.
Armie Hammer has left Shotgun Wedding after allegations made against him
Here’s what Armie Hammer had to say regarding the allegations and him leaving the project (via Variety):
I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.
A representative for the production said, “Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision.”
This all happened after messages allegedly from Hammer were shared and they included graphic sexual fantasies, going as far as cannibalism, with the actor appearing to write to a woman on the Instagram that he is “100% a cannibal” and wanted to “drink your blood.”
Hammer is set to reprise his role in the upcoming Call Me by Your Name sequel with Timothée Chalamet and directed by Luca Guadagnino. He’s also set to appear in the series The Offer, which is about the behind-the-scenes story of the making of The Godfather.
