Ant-Man 3 (Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania) is coming to cinemas, and the early reactions are calling the movie the MCU’s Star Wars, which is a pretty big claim.

I suppose the question I have is which Star Wars movie are they likening the film to, because that’s important. Is it more like one of the original trilogy movies, or is it more of a prequel and sequel thing?

This is all very important, so let’s see what the critics had to say about this upcoming MCU movie.

Here’s what Collider’s Steven Weintraub had to say about the movie on Twitter after having watched a screening of the new Marvel film:

Marvel’s #AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania is a strong start to Phase 5. I now understand why it’s called #Quantumania. JonathanMajors is excellent as Kang and cannot wait to see where this all goes. 2 after the credits scenes and both are very good.

And here’s what ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis had to say about the movie via his Twitter account:

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is by far Marvel’s weirdest, zaniest movie to date. Jonathan Majors stands out strongly. Kang elevates the whole film. Majors and Paul Rudd are intense together. Loads of CGI, crazy new characters, and an exciting trajectory for the MCU saga.

Critics like Shaurya Chawla were quick to point out how good a villain Kang is in the movie. They dubbed him a “terrific villain” and “a very complex and menacing character that I hope we get to keep around in these movies for a long, long time.”

Other critics, such as Hunter Radesi, are proclaiming that this is Major’s franchise now. This is a sentiment that was shared by a number of critics, such as Fico.

Shaurya said the following:

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA is a blast, and finally answers some of the “where is the MCU going?” questions. Takes a minute to pick up, but has some great action scenes, creative visuals and a terrific villain in Kang. A solid start to Phase 5.

Radesi then added:

#AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania is a lively, fast-paced deep dive into the weirdest corners of Marvel. Still a little mixed on some choices, but the stuff that lands hits with IMPACT. The MCU is Jonathan Majors’ franchise now.

Fico then wrote:

#AntManAndTheWaspQuantumani is the best of the trilogy. Higher stakes, dangers & repercussions. Its also got one the best MCU villains in #Kang. As soon as #JonathanMayors comes in, its his show. Kang is a scary lean-mean multiverse big baddie. Also, 2 cool post credits scenes.

However, there are some critics out there who didn’t fall in love with the movie. Laura Sirikul, for instance, was largely positive about the film, but admitted that it was “a bit underwhelming.” Eric Goldman, similarly, enjoyed the film but found its ending rather frustrating.

Sirikul said:

#AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania was good. The CGI was stunning. The Quantum Realm is seriously beautiful, but the story was a bit underwhelming. The film was entertaining & the humor was good. Michelle Pfiefer stands out from this film.

Goldman added:

Visually imaginative and very distinct from other two Ant-Man films. First still the best but this is much stronger than second. Jonathan Majors makes the impact you hope for future. Ending frustrated me. Overall it’s good though not great.

The movie is going to be released in the US and in the UK on February 17th. Have you booked your tickets yet?
