Altered Carbon Season 3 was released on Netflix a few days ago and fans are already asking when will Season 3’s release date be.
I’ve really been enjoying this steam-punky show. It’s unlike anything else on Netflix and is really quite gripping.
There aren’t too many good science-fiction shows at the moment, minus The Expanse, and Altered Carbon has really filled that void for me.
Season 2 of the Netflix show saw Anthony Mackie play the show’s main protagonist, Takeshi Kovacs.
Season 1 saw Joel Kinnaman play the role and Mackie successfully managed to build on what Kinnaman started in the first season.
People are now wondering when Altered Carbon Season 3 will be released, and I’ve done some research into when that might happen.
When Will Altered Carbon Season 3 be released on Netflix?
As for when Altered Carbon Season 3 might land on Netflix, it doesn’t look like it’ll be with us any time soon.
First off, there was a pretty big gap in between seasons one and two. Two years to be exact.
That means that Season 3 might not be with us until 2022. However, with the added issue of the Coronavirus pandemic, it might take even longer until we see Altered Carbon Season 3 on Netflix.
The other thing to take into consideration is the fact that Netflix hasn’t even greenlit Season 3 yet.
This doesn’t mean it won’t happen and it does look like the show is very popular with Netflix subscribers.
They’ve also made an animated Altered Cabon movie called Altered Carbon: Resleeved which is apparently very good.
What might happen in Season 3?
As for what might happen in Season 3, it looks like they might be taking inspiration from the books.
The Netflix series is based on a trilogy by trilogy of novels by Richard Morgan.
So far, they’ve used elements from each of his three stories in seasons one and two, and it looks like the showrunners want to keep the same three-act structure to their show.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Alison Schapker suggested there could be more seasons of the show.
She suggested that these future seasons would follow Kovacs’ journey across different planets.
“When I came on board, [creator] Laeta Kalogridis was already mapping out season two,” she explained.
“The idea was that this was going to be an anthology series but one that also had extensive continuity and rewarded viewers on a season-by-season basis as far as Takeshi Kovacs’ journey.”
Who will star in Season 3?
As for who might star in Season 3, the trend has been to have another actor step into Kovacs’ shoes.
However, that might not happen in Season 3 as Anthony Mackie has expressed interested in returning to the role.
However, Season 3’s ending did suggest Kovacs would have to find a new sleeve.
Speaking to THR, Mackie said: “I hope I get the opportunity to bring Kovacs back again next season. I’m definitely not ready [to leave the series]. Working on Altered Carbon was one of my best work experiences ever. I never had a bad day at work the entire time. It was so nice and open.
“Six months is a long time to shoot a show, but they really took care of me in a way I’ve never experienced before in this business. Playing Kovacs was more so about the family and the situation we developed as a cast and crew than it was just learning how to say my lines.”
Could Season 3 see all versions of Takeshi Kovacs return?
Personally, I would like to see Mackie return as Kovacs in some form or another in Season 3.
He was really brilliant in Season 3. They could probably come up with a story where all three actors who’ve played Kovacs could return.
