If you’re a fan of Zack Snyder’s unique cinematic style and his penchant for creating visually stunning, action-packed films, then you’re probably familiar with his 2011 film, Sucker Punch.

This film, which was Snyder’s first attempt at a completely original film, was met with mixed reviews and some controversy. However, it seems that Snyder isn’t done with Sucker Punch just yet. According to Letterboxd‘s recent interview with the director, he’s still planning to release a director’s cut of the film.

Sucker Punch was a genre-bending, action-packed film that was met with mixed critical reactions upon its release in 2011. The film was a fantastical adventure that combined elements of various genres, including fantasy, action, and thriller. Despite its unique approach, the film was criticised for its seemingly exploitative treatment of its primarily female cast and its underperformance at the box office.

However, Snyder has always maintained that the film was misunderstood and that it was intended to be a commentary on the state of movies at the time. In an interview with Letterboxd, Snyder stated, “It was a very self-reflexive film. It was a comment about where I felt like the state of movies were. It was right after Watchmen, which I felt was deconstructive.”

Despite the mixed reception, Snyder has expressed his desire to revisit Sucker Punch and release a director’s cut. He stated in the same interview, “I’ve never gotten around to doing the director’s cut. I still plan to at some point.” Snyder also mentioned that he would like to reinstate his preferred ending for the film, which was deemed too weird by the studio and subsequently changed.

The original ending involved the character Babydoll, played by Emily Browning, singing a song on stage after being lobotomised. Snyder described the scene as an “infinite loop of euphoric victory” and expressed his desire to eventually show this version to the audience.
