Vince Vaughn Is Making Dodgeball 2

Vince Vaughn Is Making Dodgeball 2

Vince Vaughn’s Pete LaFleur is making a comeback in a Dodgeball sequel, close to 20 years after the release of the original film back in 2004.

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story had mixed but generally positive reviews. Rotten Tomatoes has a 71% rating on the tomatometer, and 76% on the audience score. Nevertheless, it was a financial success. It had a budget of $20 million, and earned at the box office $168 million worldwide. So many wondered why it didn’t make a sequel.

A sequel was originally announced back in 2013. Vaughn and Ben Stiller were supposed to reprise their roles. It was to be written by Clay Tarver who is known to be the executive producer of Silicon Valley. This apparently didn’t push through. In fact, Stiller didn’t even know there was a sequel being developed.

Back in 2021, Rawson Marshall Thurber, the writer and director behind Dodgeball, as well as other popular films such as We’re the Millers, Central Intelligence, Skyscraper, and Red Notice, shared with Deadline:

You know what — never say never. I never thought about Dodgeball as a series, but that actually might be fun. I’m really proud of Dodgeball — it’s my first film and something people still really like it seems. I would say never say never, and it would have to be the right take on it. But yeah, maybe.

Deadline reports that Vaughn is set to star and possibly produce Dodgeball 2. Jordan VanDina will be making the script. VanDina is known for Animaniacs, It’s a Wonderful Binge, The Binge and SuperMansion. The story is based on the idea from Vaughn which will continue the story of Pete LaFleur.

Both Vaughn and VanDina have worked together in The Binge which was released in 2020.

So far there is no news if Thurber will be involved with the sequel. But I do think he would like to be part of it considering how he made the original film. And Dodgeball was his debut film.

Since Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story had an all star cast, we wonder if most or if any of them would return. The film starred Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Rip Torn, Justin Long, Stephen Root, Alan Tudyk, Joel David Moore, Chris Williams, and Missi Pyle. It had several popular actors with short roles like William Shatner, Jason Bateman, and Patton Oswalt. Cameo roles from Lance Armstrong, Chuck Norris, and David Hasslehoff.

Unfortunately Rip Torn passed away back in 2019, so it’s possible that his character would be mentioned in the sequel.

It would be great to see Ben Stiller again reprising his role as White Goodman who is the main antagonist of the original film. It was reported that his character was part of the supposed sequel back in 2013.

Vaughn is known for films like Wedding Crashers, The Internship, Old School, and The Break-Up. He is also known for TV roles like True Detective, F is for Family, Curb Your Enthusiasm. Currently, he’s making a show for Apple TV Plus titled Bad Monkey, for which the release date has not yet been announced.

He’s also set to star with Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa and Aubrey Plaza in Animal Friends. It was recently announced at CinemaCon that he’ll be in John Krasinski’s If.
