Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990’s Movie Writer Wants To Do A Reboot

It seems as though there might be an appetite for a live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. And, when I say a reboot, I’m talking of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Mutant Turtles movie that came out in the 1990s.

That 1990s movie still has a charm to it that none of the newer movies came anywhere near to recapturing. That’s probably down to the work of Jim Henson and his Creature Shop who were the people that brought the turtles and the film’s other creatures to life.

Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Donatello just all looked brilliant in the movie, and the CGI of the new movies just felt wrong. Anyway, the writer of the original film, Bobby Herbeck, has revealed that he really wants a reboot of that 1990s movie to happen.

He also revealed that he’s talked to the original director, Steve Barron, as well as Brian Henson of Jim Henson Studios about it.

During a recent interview with ComicBook, com, Herbeck was asked whether a sequel is on the cards for the 1990s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It could be a film set in the same universe as the first three live-action movies. You can read what he said below:

Yes. The answer is yes. We’re trying to make that happen. We want to do a reboot. We got our fans come to us on Instagram, they’re, ‘Why don’t you guys do a reboot of the first movie?’ We’d love to do it.

It would be brilliant to see what Jim Henson’s Creature Shop could do with the Turtles today especially given the advancements in visual effect. Here’s what Herbeck said:

The truth is, this property, it’s established now after 30 years as a part of our modern pop culture, it’s not going away. It’s only going to continue to grow. I do wish that we could go back. I mean, we’ve talked to Steve Barron about this, and Brian Henson, and if there were an opportunity, if one of the studios saw fit, I think we could go back and reboot it like it was….Imagine if Brian Henson had access to the technology he does today to make these costumes and all that. I think it would be amazing. A reboot like that I think would really get people’s juices flowing.
