Mario Movie French Trailer Dub Has A Better Mario Voice

The Mario movie trailer was released yesterday, followed by the French version, which featured a much better Mario voice. The iconic video game character is going to be voiced by Chris Pratt in the English version, and there was a bit of an uproar when that casting was first announced. It then got worse when the movie’s first trailer was released yesterday, and people were in agreement that Pratt’s voice was totally wrong for the character.

Well, the trailer’s French version was subsequently released, and the character’s voice is so much better in that version. It basically sounds like a French version of Charles Martinet, and it just makes me wonder why on Earth didn’t Illumination and Nintendo just get Charles to voice the character in English. He is American and is a really good voice actor!

Quite a few people on Twitter pointed out the fact that Chris Pratt just sounded totally wrong for the part, and I have to say that I agree with them. His voice is great for The Lego Movie, but he’s just not Mario, because we already have a voice actor that does the role in the video games! It just sounds off to me hearing Pratt’s voice in the role.

Then, some people revealed that the character sounds an awful lot better in the trailer’s French dub. Here’s what some Twitter users had to say on the matter:

That said, the movie’s producers have been adamant that Chris Pratt delivers an incredible performance in the movie, and the reason why they cast him in the role will become clear once the film’s been released. In June, Pratt said it would be “unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world,” and producer Chris Meledandri said “criticism will evaporate” when people hear Pratt’s performance as Mario.

The Super Mario Bros Movie is going to be released in cinemas on April 7th, 2023. It’ll star Chris Pratt (obviously), and he’ll be joined by the likes of Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.

Meanwhile, you can check out the French version of the trailer via the YouTube video I’ve embedded below:

So, which one do you think is better? Chris Pratt’s or the French version of Super Mario? The French voice actor who’s voicing Super Mario in the movie is called Pierre Tessier, and I think he’s a much better Mario than Chris Pratt. Sorry, Chris.
