Stranger Things season 5 is definitely on its way as David Harbour confirmed the production’s filming start date. From the day Netflix streamed the final episode of Season 4 titled Piggyback, fans have eagerly awaited news about the fifth and what would be the concluding season for the series.

The final episode of Stranger Things season 4 gave a glimpse of the extent of destruction Hawkins is facing because Vecna was still successful in opening his portals. Many theories have surfaced and the Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross, already gave out clues as to how it will happen. But, of course, they left much of the details to the imagination.

Questions still linger as to what is going to happen to the kids of Hawkins, particularly to Max and what’s in store for Will Byers. Many of the key story points of season 4 gave answers that opened more questions. Rightfully so, Stranger Things season 5 will be something the Duffer brothers have been gearing up for years.

As expected the brothers and their team of writers have already known how the series will end ever since season 1. And now, the people are highly anticipating the twists and turns that the groups and tandems in Hawkins are set to face.

Understandably, each actor has a set of preparations to fulfil and David Harbour recently shared his portion of the preparation pie. Unlike in our report last year, where he was not fully certain as to when they will start shooting, this time, there is a definite month on when they will begin.

In an interview with Collider, it is evident that Harbour has the series close to his heart. At the same time, he knows that it is entering the last leg of its story. He did mention certain aspects of his character in the coming ending season. The actor shares:

We’re walking into season five. I’ve got a couple more months to train. We start shooting that in June, though, and that will be the final season.

Talking about his character in the penultimate season that concluded July 1 last year, he said:

I did a lot of training for season four. He [Hopper] was in a very specific position, that Russian prison. It was about making him a different guy and sort of shedding a layer of himself physically, mentally, and emotionally.

By the end of season 4, Hopper was back at Hawkins together with Winona Ryder’s Joyce Byers and the kids. Particularly, he got to reunite with his adoptive daughter Eleven. Noting what to expect on the certain physique for the character, he stated:

But now he’s back in town, he’s back in America where they have cheeseburgers, so he will be well-fed.

Prior to this information, Harbour had stated that they would begin filming this year. He gauged that based on how they did in previous productions of the seasons, they will likely have the finale season by late 2023 or early 2024.

However, with this more definite start month, it is likely that they will have another year for post-production, and the estimated premiere of Stranger Things season 5 could be mid to late 2024 or even early 2025.

There is so much story thread for the Duffer Brothers to weave together for the ending season. However, now it is clear that they are taking deliberate steps to bring their story to a close. Matt and Ross Duffer have stated before that they will get the original teams and pairings back for the final season.

This means that the kids will be dealing with a challenge that is foreshadowed by a certain D&D campaign. Nancy, with Steve, Robin and Jonathan will be taking on some separate ‘quests’ in the Upside Down. Meanwhile, Hopper and Joyce, together with Murray, would likely deal with government conspiracies.

Expected to return for Stranger Things season 5 with Harbour and Ryder are Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Priah Ferguson, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery and Maya Hawke.
