Star Wars’ Future Uncertain Says Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is almost upon us and it will be the final instalment in this new Star Wars saga, but it sounds as if Lucasfilm isn’t too sure what’s going to come next.

This news comes after Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy spoke to Rolling Stone and she was asked about the future of Star Wars after The Rise of Skywalker.

I’m going to be honest, Kennedy’s answer didn’t exactly fill us with confidence, as Lucasfilm’s President kind of admitted they had no idea what was going to come next.

Here’s what Kennedy said in full about the future of Star Wars beyond The Rise of Skywalker:

We’ve got various things we’re looking at and various ways in which we can begin or not. As you can imagine. You know, do you go back? Do you go forward? All those questions are being asked. Do we stay in this galaxy? Do we go to another? The universe is never-ending. The good news and the bad news. They have endless possibilities. It’s liberating, it’s exciting, and it creates a lot of pressure and anxiety as well.

So, basically, Lucasfilm has gone back to the drawing board. They’re coming up with new stories and trying to figure out where to go next.

Sounds like Lucasfilm doesn’t have a clue…

In all honesty, they should have been doing this a while back – probably even before Star Wars: The Last Jedi came out.

However, there have been some changes since then. Lucasfilm and Game of Thrones creators Benioff and Weiss parted ways.

They were supposedly working on another Star Wars trilogy, so that’s now out the window, and although nothing official has been released, it looks like Rian Johnson’s trilogy is dead.

That part really upsets me because I think he would have made something genuinely spectacular in the Star Wars universe, but it’s another instance of very vocal fan pressure playing its part.

It sounds like Lucasfilm and Kennedy are too worried about what the, let’s face it, toxic Star Wars fan base will say if they move ahead with Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy.

I would love it if they went ahead with his trilogy anyway and let the films do the talking, but it’s feeling more and more like they won’t.
