Scarlett Johansson Explains Why A Black Widow Movie Couldn’t Have Happened Earlier

Scarlett Johansson has explained why a Black Widow movie in the MCU couldn’t have happened any earlier. She revealed why in the new book, Black Widow: The Official Movie Special Book (via ComicBookMovie.com).

The Black Widow film was supposed to come out in 2020, yet 2020 has been a terrible year. Thanks, COVID-19! We’ve all been really looking forward to seeing the upcoming movie, which stars Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow.

She’s played the character since Iron Man 2, and Black Widow actually died in Avengers: Endgame. However, this upcoming Black Widow movie will take place before the events of Avengers: Endgame.

Here’s what Scarlett Johansson said about how a Black Widow movie couldn’t have happened before now:

Before, I don’t think I would have been able to show people who Natasha really is, what drives her and show her emotional core. I don’t think we’d be able to cut that deep back then.

It would have probably been much more of a straight-up spy thriller that maybe would have been a lot flashier in a different kind of way and just scratch the surface of what we do in this movie.

So, what Scarlett Johansson is saying is that she wasn’t quite ready yet to play the character in a standalone movie. Seriously, I cannot wait for the Black Widow movie to finally be released. There have been rumours that it could be coming to Disney Plus at some point in 2021. Let’s wait and see what happens.
