Nicolas Cage Wants To Play An Odd Batman Villain

Nicolas Cage has revealed that he would love to play a really strange Batman villain – some may say the strangest villain in the Dark Knight’s rogues gallery. During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Screen Rant), the actor revealed that he would love to play Egghead in a Batman movie. I think that Warner Bros Discovery should get on the phone with his agents right now and make this happen. Matt Reeves, are you reading this!? Write Egghead into your next DC Comics Batman flick right now!

We first saw this really odd Batman villain, Egghead, in the 1960s Batman television series starring Adam West as the Caped Crusader, Burt Ward as Robin the Boy Wonder, Cesar Romero as Joker, Burgess Meredith as Penguin, and Julie Numar as one of the Selina Kyles. Egghead was played by Vincent Price. He has become pretty well known for his signature his large, egg-shaped head and yellow and white suit. He also loved a good egg pun, such as “egg-cellent” and “egg-citing”. There’s only one actor working in Hollywood today that could pull that off. You got it. Nicolas Cage.

Cage is easily one of my favourite actors of all time. He’s delivered some of the most amazing, awe-inspiring, strange, bizarre, confusing and terrible performances I’ve ever seen. There’s no wonder that Abed almost lost his mind in Community when he was asked to answer the simple question: is Nicolas Cage a good or a bad actor? It’s an impossible question to answer, but I think he’s neither – he’s the greatest actor to have ever lived.

Should Egghead be in the next Batman movie?

Appearing this week on the podcast Happy Sad Confused, Cage revealed why Egghead is the Batman villain for him to play in live-action:

You know what I mean it’s like, Egghead is Vincent Price right? He’s one of our other great American superstar actors that I revere and had so much fun watching growing up. Theater of Blood. So I was watching the Batman show, because I really wanted to see what Vincent Price was going to do. And the character’s hilarious. I mean, everything starts with “Egg-cellent.” And it’s, “Egg-static.” But I’m not calling Warner Bros.. This is just more of a fun little thing. Cause I’m on a red carpet, somebody asks me a question, I want to give them a funny answer. But there is an approach to that character that could be terrifying. And I’ve thought a lot about it. I’m not going to share it with you.

Honestly, I think that Cage should get to play Egghead in a future Batman movie. Somehow, however, I have the feeling that the iconic Batman villain won’t be turning up in any of Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman movies, which is a shame. I think I’m not the only person out there who would love to see him play the character in live-action.
