It’s been revealed to us by sources reportedly close to the project that Michael Keaton will be back in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2. This comes after it was rumoured that Johnny Depp will be in the movie with Winona Ryder.
This Beetlejuice 2 project has been on-and-off for quite some time now. Back in 2015, whilst appearing on Seth Myers’ chat show, Winona Ryder revealed that she can “confirm” it’s happening – but “doesn’t know much more than anybody else”.
However, since then there’s been very little news on the project. Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg wrote early scripts for the project, and since then revisions had been made by Mike Vukadinovich. Grahame-Smith and Katzenberg are also producers on the film.
Michael Keaton will be back in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2
Well, we can now say that a source has informed us that Michael Keaton will be back as Betelgeuse, the character be played in the first movie back in 1988. Here’s what they told us:
Beetlejuice 2 is happening. I can’t say anything about Depp’s involvement, but what I can confirm is that Keaton will be back in the film as Betelgeuse.
I then pressed the source for slightly more information, and they went on to reveal that they are looking at bringing Tim Burton back to direct:
It looks like Tim Burton will be directing the film, but it might not start filming for a while.
Beetlejuice 2 will also star Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder
I asked some other sources I’ve worked with in the part to confirm whether Michael Keaton will be back in Beetlejuice 2, and a number of them claimed that they had heard that it is happening. However, they couldn’t give me 100% confirmation.
That said, the first source that came to me was pretty adamant that Keaton will be returning as Betelgeuse in Beetlejuice 2. So, what I can tell you is watch this space. It sounds at the moment that the follow-up movie will star Winona Ryder, Johnny Depp and Michael Keaton, which is what a lot of fans of the first movie and Tim Burton would love to see.
