Man-Thing Steals The Show In Werewolf By Night

Man-Thing is said to be the best thing about the upcoming Werewolf By Night Halloween special which is coming to Disney Plus very soon. The initial reviews of the new Marvel Studios special were released online, and the majority of them praised Man-Thing and said that this show marks a new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The Marvel Comics character was created by Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, and artist Gray Morrow. The character ended up coming something of a cult hit with comic book readers for decades. There are a few people out there who will claim that Werewolf by Night will be the character’s live-action debut. However, that’s not actually the case. Man-Thing was first seen in live-action in a Sci-Fi channel movie, Man-Thing, released in 2005.

The show’s first trailer was unveiled at the D23 Expo during Marvel’s panel, and it was glorious. It revealed a black-and-white gore-fest which was harking back to the classic monster movies of early cinema. I can’t wait to watch this series because it seems like it’s going to be right up my street! This Halloween special is very much a throwback to the horror movies of the 1920s and ’30s, and I’m all for it!

The special is directed by Michael Giacchino who revealed in a recent interview that he wanted to honour the cinemas he loved as a child with Werewolf By Night. Here’s what was revealed during that interview:

Michael Giacchino said that he was inspired by these types of movies and often spent his Saturdays watching Creature Double Feature, a television segment that played from 1973-83, showing exclusively monster movies. He had a fondness for this type of cinema since he was a kid, and it deeply influenced his style. He also said that he wanted to make an experience that would genuinely scare his viewers to the point that they would remember it forever.

This is classic horror cinema in the MCU!

Werewolf By Night will star Gael Bernal Garcia, who’s going to be playing the special’s lead, Jack Russell. He’s the one who ends up turning in the titular Marvel character. It’s going to be a really interesting special to watch, and I, for one, cannot wait to see it. As for Russell, he can become a werewolf and is able to maintain most of his faculties. He will be joined by Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone and Harriet Sansom Harris as Verusa among others. They will be part of a larger group of monster hunters in the movie.

The Halloween special was written by Peter Cameron and Heather Quinn. It will be available to stream on Disney Plus on October 7th, so not that long to wait! This is the Marvel Cinematic Universe project that I’ve been looking forward to watching the most for a very long time. I just feel like it’s going to open the floodgates up to the supernatural in the MCU, and it’s about time. There was a rumour that Mahershala Ali’s Blade was meant to be making a cameo in this special, but they were rebuffed by the special’s director, Giacchino.
