Lord Of The Rings Season 2 Sets Are Catching Fire

Amazon Prime’s most expensive series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, experienced a fire outbreak at its UK set. This will definitely add to the already growing cost of production. The investigation as to the cause of the fire is still underway.

Considering that production has even lost a horse just last week due to cardiac arrest, people are starting to say something is up behind the scenes. There are even comments poking at the idea that they are getting these setbacks as they tackle anything involving Mordor.

Production of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power moved its main location from New Zealand to the UK, which was considered more sensible and economical. However, recent events might just be the reason they’d still have to spend the cost they are actually saving.

Fortunately, the fire incident did not hurt anyone in the production.

Variety has reported that fire has broken out in a warehouse near where The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was being shot. A statement from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service has said:

At 12:26 pm on Monday, 3 April, we received reports of a fire at Bray Studios near Windsor. Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Bracknell, Slough and Maidenhead Fire Stations were sent to the scene. Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire in a single storey storage workshop located away from the filming set. Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used three hose reels and a main jet to extinguish the fire. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately four hours and 35 minutes. An investigation will take place to determine the cause of the fire.

The outlet has also reported that this was an electrical fire. The filming stopped while the emergency services did their duty. No one was hurt during the ordeal. Production resumed shortly after. There are no reports regarding the damage this has affected the series. Somehow it seems to be minor at the moment. But it’s hard to tell if the production had equipment or sets needed that were damaged during the fire.

People now remember a separate incident prior to this where the production lost a horse to cardiac arrest. They stated:

We are deeply saddened to confirm that a production horse died on 21st March. The incident took place in the morning whilst the horse was being exercised prior to rehearsals. The trainer was not in costume and filming had yet to commence. Both a veterinarian and a representative of the American Humane Association were present at the time. The independent necropsy has confirmed that the horse died of cardiac failure.

While the two are obviously unrelated incidents, people can’t help but think of a connection. However, it is still the common wish that the production does not encounter any more incidents.

The information also does not disclose whether the production schedule got affected by the incidents or not. Hopefully, Season 2 still is on track for their 2024 release.

In October 2021, the production of Alec Baldwin’s Rust caused a tragic gun accident killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. In 2014, in the production of Midnight Runner, camera assistant Sarah Jones was struck by an oncoming train while they were shooting on a bridge. In 2003, lead actor John Ritter fell ill during the production of 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, and he passed away later that same evening. In the movie Back to the Future III, Michael J Fox almost got hanged for real while shooting a scene.

Production on any project can always have accidents and unpredictable mishaps. It’s just a matter of safety precautions and security protocols being in place in order to prevent them from happening. But for sure, anything is possible. So far, it seems that Amazon has done everything it can to control any potential issue that arises.

Amazon considers The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power as their “most watched show ever.” Unfortunately, Forbes also recently reported that only 37% of its viewers finished the series. Hopefully, the new season will entice more viewers back into the show.

The fire on The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power is a minor setback, but it won’t stop Amazon from making the best show that they can deliver.

Even though The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power series take place many centuries before Bilbo Baggins existed, many viewers are still looking forward to finding out what is next for the series. It is why even now, just as the second season is still in production, fans make a point to be updated with regard to the developments of the shoot.

By the end of the first season, the three rings had already been forged. Will Galadriel tell Celebrimbor and Elrond what she has found out? Will she do so during the first episode of the second season? Are they going to skip a few centuries? For sure, there will be new characters in the new season, thus having new implications for the story.
