More Gambit news here. It looks like Fox has pulled the movie entirely for its release schedule which leaves us thinking whether they’ve just decided to pull the plug on the Channing Tatum-led X-Men movie.
There have been a lot of problems with the Gambit movie from the very beginning. It started off well. Channing Tatum was cast as the lead and then Rupert Wyatt was brought on to direct with Léa Seydoux set to be the film’s female lead. All sounds very promising. But Wyatt then dropped out along with Seydoux and Doug Liman stepped into the ring for a brief period. He then also left the movie and was finally replaced by Gore Verbinski who subsequently exited the project.
This is the textbook definition of ‘production hell’. It’s been through three different directors and then the movie’s release date got pushed back from February 2019 to June 2019. However, there’s now news from ComicBookMovie.com that Fox has completely dropped the movie from its release schedule. It was originally thought that the movie would begin shooting on March 19th with Fox still searching for a new director.
According to the site, Gambit will now begin shooting in Montreal, Quebec in the summer. Channing Tatum is still onboard to star in the project which is said to be a superhero movie that heavily relies on comedy. It sounds like a little bit of mess but here’s hoping that Fox manages to get it out before the deal with Disney is 100% finalised. The chances of seeing a sequel to Gambit are already pretty thin due to the imminent takeover, but hopefully, they’ll manage to get this film made just in time.
