It’s being reported that Illumination is working on an animated The Legend Of Zelda movie, which would be pretty darn awesome if this turns out to be true! This report comes to us via Giant Freakin Robot.
Illumination is quickly becoming one of the biggest animated movie studios in the world. They started off with the Despicable Me movies, and then they branched out, making the Minions films, The Grinch movie, the Sing films, and they are about to release The Super Mario Bros Movie.
I have a feeling that their Super Mario Bros movie is going to break a bunch of records are the box office. It looks brilliant, and even though I’m not mad about the casting of Chris Pratt as Mario, I think the rest of the voice cast sounds amazing, and the movie itself looks very, very good.
A Legend Of Zelda film from Illumination makes a lot of sense

Well, it sounds as though Nintendo has been so impressed with Illumination’s work on the Super Mario Bros Movie, that they are talking about giving them the keys to another one of its huge IPs – Zelda.
People have been calling for a Legend Of Zelda movie for years, and we were going to get a series at one point. It was in the works over at Netflix, but the project leaked, and that gave Nintendo cold feet, and they ended up pulling the plug on the project.
However, it seems as though they have developed trust and understanding with Illumination, and they trust the animation movie studio to turn The Legend Of Zelda into a new movie property! Honestly, if they end up making this movie, I think it’ll probably end up breaking the records that The Super Mario Bros Movie is about to break!
Will they make more movies based on Nintendo’s properties?

One of the big questions I have is, will Illumination end up making a lot of movies based on Nintendo properties and video games? I have a feeling that this Super Mario Bros movie is going to get a sequel and also a spinoff film.
I can see them making a sequel already, and I can also see them making a Luigi’s Mansion movie, which I know fans would be very much interested in watching. Charlie Day, who’s the voice of Luigi in the upcoming movie, has already said that he would love to make a Luigi’s Mansion film.
Then, I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up making a Kirby film, and maybe even a Metroid movie – that would be something I would love to see. However, I do wonder whether that property might be a bit too scary to be adapted into an animated movie.
The thing is, Nintendo has so many properties that could be developed into excellent animated films with Illumination. It’s kind of a match made in heaven, and it looks like the two companies really enjoy working together.
I’ll let you know if I hear anything about upcoming Nintendo movie projects with Illumination.
